Looking very good for 2010, what an exciting team. Seeing so many teams struggle to field a quality team over the park, I think we are very lucky.

2 points off the Minor Premiership in 2009. We can do even better next season.

Our David Mead, the Titanium Kumul will also be getting some runs for PNG over the coming weeks.

Do we know whats happening with guys like Selasi Berdie, Ben Jeffery, Brad Davis & Ben Ridge.

I would expect that a few Burleigh QCup players will make it to the list. Big Cale Burton might be back and Scott Smith played well for Burleigh last year

I read somewhere that Jeffery is giving up footy. I assume Ben Ridge would be joining the top team this year?

I think it was mentioned in an article in RLW a while ago. It had something about Chris Walker leaving and it mentioned Jeffery in there, as well as a few other players, like Delaney, Bowen, etc.

Looks like we have a couple of new signings coming our way. Does anyone know who the former international is that we are looking to sign next week?

The Gold Coast Titans will tackle preparations for 2010 NRL season head-on at the new $30 million Centre of Excellence at Robina

WEEKEND EXTRA

NRL: The Gold Coast Titans kick off pre-season training at their state of the art Centre of Excellence on Monday week in a bid for greater success in 2010.

The Titans playing group will be the first to move into the new $30 million home base at Robina, with the gym to be fitted out next Thursday in preparation for when the first group returns on November 16.

"It sends a really clear message to the players that we are determined to strive to give them the best possible chance to be the best footballer they can possibly be off and on the paddock," said Titans managing director Michael Searle. "It is not just about their physical development it is about their personal development.

"We have got our own conference rooms so we can do all our education programs there.

"We have also got commercial kitchens that will allow them to learn all their dietary skills. It really is a holistic approach to their development."

The junior players in the squad and those returning from injury will be among the first to test out the new facility, while the veterans and representative stars will return a week later on November 23.

Searle is hopeful of moving the administration side of the business by January. The project is expected to be completed before the inaugural NRL All Stars match at Skilled Park on February 13.

NRL: The Titans are not yet finished with their recruiting for 2010, with a couple more additions expected before kick off next season.

The club recently agreed to second tier contracts with former Canberra Raiders utility Marshall Chalk and Roosters hooker Riley Brown to add depth to their playing roster. And Weekend Extra hears there could be another addition as early as next week, a former international no less.

"We have got the opportunity in the second tier to bring in some blokes for where we think we may have some gaps," said Titans boss Michael Searle. "I am not saying that we are finished with our second tier yet either.

"There are lots of high quality players out there looking for opportunities that are prepared to come to our club now and I think part of that is because of the facilities we have got."

Titans Queensland Cup feeder club Tweed Heads Seagulls have meanwhile confirmed their new coaching staff for 2010.

After a horror run, which has seen the Seagulls turn over four head coaches in the past three years, the butcher stripes will be looking to find some stability in former Melbourne Storm players Ben Anderson and Matt Geyer. The son of former national coach Chris Anderson, Ben will take on the top job, with Geyer as his assistant. Anderson comes from the Moranbah Miners in the Mackay and District Rugby League competition, after leading them to the grand final this season.

TITANS boss Michael Searle returned this week from a European trip with coach John Cartwright, which they used to map out a plan for next season and beyond.

But Searle said he did not meet with French-based former Cronulla Sharks player Greg Bird. In June, Bird was sentenced to at least eight months' jail after being convicted of recklessly wounding girlfriend Katie Milligan. The appeal hearing is set for November 23.

Searle said the club had not ruled out making a play for Bird but would wait to see the outcome of the court case before deciding.

Well looks like we might have a couple more signitures to speculate over during the off season. Should keep us a bit busy.

I think we are well stocked, we have more or less specialist in all positions. It is a position to be proud of.

Titans offer ex-Kiwi international a lifeline

Luke Turgeon | November 14th, 2009

FORMER Kiwi international Clinton Toopi will attempt to resurrect his career at the Gold Coast Titans.

Toopi has agreed to join the Gold Coast over the pre-season on a train and trial basis, with the club hopeful of rewarding the 29-year-old with a 12-month incentive-based deal.

"Toopi is an experienced player and I know he is keen to come back to rugby league and get a chance in the NRL," said Titans managing director Michael Searle.

The veteran centre last played in the NRL with the Warriors in 2006 before heading to England for a successful Super League stint with the Leeds Rhinos.

But Toopi's time with the Rhinos was cut short due to injury, undergoing both shoulder and knee reconstructions last year.

Toopi played 129 games for the Warriors, including the 2002 grand final, and represented New Zealand 22 times between 2001-2007.

He recently underwent further minor knee surgery in New Zealand and will arrive on the Gold Coast on January 4.

Toopi's recruitment is seen as a move by the Titans to add depth and experience to their rookie outside back stocks, following the departure of experienced campaigner Chris Walker and back-up options Ben Jeffery, Brenton Bowen and Smith Samau.

The Titans will boast arguably the most exciting young backline in the NRL in 2010, with the likes of Kevin Gordon, David Mead, Esi Tonga and Joseph Tomane poised to dominate out wide.

"He will be good to have in case we strike some injuries out on the edges," said Searle.

"He is big, he is good under the high ball and he is aggressive.

"He is also somebody that could potentially mentor a few of our younger guys as well."

It will be an interesting reunion between Toopi and new Titans teammate Brad Meyers.

Toopi destroyed Meyers' Australian Test debut in 2001, with an elbow to the head making sure 'Big Red' only lasted 17 minutes.

The incident is widely credited with stunting Meyers' Test career.

Toopi joins Tomane, former Raiders utility Marshall Chalk and former Roosters hooker Riley Brown as the new additions for the Titans' 2010 squad.
