Under-20s cruise to victory over Titans

THE winning streak of the under-20s Cowboys continues after their 36-12 win over the Gold Coast Titans in last night's National Youth Cup clash.

But a pushover victory it was not, as the last-placed Titans troubled the Cowboys at times with plenty of gusto in attack.

Michael Parker-Walshe and Michael Morgan scored doubles for North Queensland and big centre Moses Pangai was in good touch as the young Cowboys pressed home their advantage in the second half.

But the Cowboys got off to a shaky start as Gold Coast hooker Matt Srama scored from dummy half following a Cowboys' dropped ball from kick-off.

That only proved to be an early hiccup as the Cowboys went on to dominate the rest of the half, which featured a sensational individual try by Parker-Walshe after he kicked a loose Titans' ball four times from 40m out to score untouched.

The second half started in similar fashion as the Cowboys let the Titans kick-off bounce dead, resulting in a try to Gold Coast interchange Tom Dawney.

It took about 10 minutes for the Cowboys to click into gear again, but when they did the game was all but sealed.

The win now takes the Cowboys unbeaten streak to four games from five while the Titans failed to break their winless start to the year.

Pangai was the only injury concern for North Queensland last night as he was helped to the Cowboys interchange bench 15 minutes into the second stanza.

NORTH QUEENSLAND 36 (Parker-Walshe 2, Morgan 2, Haywood, Santo, Ulugia; Feldt 4 goals) bt GOLD COAST 12 (Srama, Dawney; Rankin 2 goals)
