FORMER Test forward Brad Meyers is set to make his return from injury for the Ipswich Jets in the opening round of the Queensland Cup this weekend.

With competition fierce for the Gold Coast Titans' starting 17, Meyers will play his first game since off-season knee surgery against Easts Tigers in the state league tomorrow.

Centres Esi Tonga and Joseph Tomane will also turn out for the Jets, who are this year coached by former NRL brothers Shane and Ben Walker.

Titans coach John Cartwright has stayed loyal to Clinton Toopi and Steve Michaels over the opening rounds, after the pair finished last season strongly in the backline.

But hulking young guns Tonga and Tomane are expected to apply plenty of pressure for starting spots over the coming weeks.

Tonga, in particular, showed some promising touches in the club's first trial against the Brisbane Broncos before a badly broken nose sidelined him for the rest of the pre-season.

The Tweed Heads Seagulls will boast five Titans for their season-opening clash against Souths Logan at Davies Park on Sunday.

Prop Will Matthews, backrower Ben Ridge, fullback Shannon Walker, hooker Kayne Lawton and winger Dom Peyroux will turn out for the butchers stripes, who are shaping as an early heavyweight following the return of experienced campaigners Matt King and Nat Barnes. Luke O'Dwyer is expected to return for Tweed Heads next week, still waiting to be given the green light on a rib cartilage injury.

New signing Joe Vickery, an exciting young winger who joined the Titans from St George Illawarra, is expected to line up for the Burleigh Bears against the Sunshine Coast at Pizzey Park on Sunday.
