Titans NYC Go Down To Dragons

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans NYC side has suffered a 38-4 loss in their season opening clash against the St George Illawarra Dragons at Skilled Park tonight.

Trailing 16-4 at halftime, the Titans were still within striking distance midway through the second half until the Dragons piled on four unanswered tries in the final 21 minutes to run away comfortable winners.

The Titans weren't helped by injuries to several players in the first half, forcing a major reshuffle of their line-up.

The Titans were first to score in the opening exchanges through fullback Peter Norman but the Dragons hit back with a converted try to centre David Catterall to lead 6-4 after 10 minutes.

The Titans lost several players to injuries in quick succession and the visitors capitalised, extending the lead midway through first half courtesy of a runaway try to fullback Kane Gillies.

Interchange player Adam Docker continued the Dragons' momentum just before halftime with a try to give the visitors a 16-4 lead at the break.

The Titans got back into the arm wrestle after halftime before two tries to Gillies and Nathan Green in quick succession put the result beyond doubt with 10 minutes left on the clock.

The defence is what let us down. The middle was rock solid, wide out was non existant. A lot of work is needed if we want to see a better result against the Storm. Traditionally the Storm are one of the finest defensive exponants, especially the wrestle.
