Maroon Crusade Ambush Blues

WHEN Darren Lockyer and the Queensland Maroons run onto ANZ Stadium for Origin 2 next Wednesday night, they will not be alone.

They will receive a roaring warm reception from the Maroon Crusade, the ever-growing group of passionate Maroon supporters who are either based in NSW or who travel to NSW during the State of Origin.

The Maroon Crusade can be spotted in maroon gear, wigs and bucket hats in their very own official Maroon Crusade Bays at the stadium. Their mission is to fill ANZ Stadium maroon during Origin time and at other events that call for Queensland pride!

The group emanated a few years ago from the core Brisbane Broncos (Broncos Stable), North Queensland Cowboys (Southern Stampede), Gold Coast Titans (Southern Legion), and Melbourne Storm (Sydney Stormtroopers & Storm Purple Army) supporters groups who were sick of sitting with Blues supporters and decided to unite for Queensland.

In both 2009 and 2010, the Maroon Crusade Bays sold out. In 2010, over 4,000 fanatical Queenslanders shell-shocked the Blues by turning out to cheer on the Maroons in Blues territory and witness the Maroons? history making five series in a row and clean-sweep. This year at Origin 2, the Maroon Crusade are on track to break that record of Queenslanders present at an away game.

The Maroon Crusade is popular amongst the Queensland Maroons players, many of whom have even donned the maroon wigs and bucket hats. The team loves the boost they receive from Queenslanders when they run out in New South Wales heartland and hear the Maroon Crusade cheering them on.
