TSS Student Selected For National Touch Football Team
08-Oct-2010

After being named Player of the Match in the National 18 years Touch Football Schoolboys Grand Final, TSS student Peter Norman has been selected to play for Australia in Auckland next January.

“I thought I had a good chance of being selected and I was very happy with the way I played,” said 17-year-old Peter. “Obviously being selected as Player of the Match would have helped my chances.”

The honour of being selected to play for Queensland which took out the national series was further highlighted for Peter as he also was the team captain.

This followed his role as captain and player representing the Gold Coast 18 years boys at the Queensland Junior State Titles.

Peter said although there had not been an age group international tour for a while, the Australian team had a good chance of winning the competition.

“The local Touch competition attracts plenty of ex-Kiwis and they certainly have a distinctive style of play which, we can identify on video footage of the New Zealand representative side.”

Peter is no stranger to State representation having played for Queensland for eight consecutive years in Touch Football. It is believed that he is the first person to have represented the State in eight consecutive Queensland teams.

Not keen to rest on his laurels, earlier this year Peter also represented Queensland in the Under 20s, along with former TSS student Keith McDonald, in a State of Origin series in Sydney. This series was won by New South Wales.

Peter’s sporting prowess is not limited to Touch Football. He also has been again named in the Queensland bodyboarding team but was unable to take up this selection owing to clashes with his Touch Football commitments. He also plays Rugby Union for the TSS 1st XV and is captain of athletics and is the current Open age champion.

Peter completes Year 12 at the end of the year and plans to spend some time travelling around Australia and overseas before hopefully undertaking degree studies in Exercise Science at Griffith University.
