Warriors would mean a huge and noisey crowd, always well support on the Coast.

Much better for us to take on the Warriors instead of the Roosters. Especially because we recently played them and they'd have great motivation to get us.

Hmmm.... Hmmm.... convincing arguement Kwigi. You might have me convinced. Crowd impact is important, especially in the Finals and it'd be great to have as many Titans fans there as possible for many reasons.

Playing the Roosters would mean less opposition fans and more Titans fans to urge our boys to play at their potential and take on any comers.

Titans fans hungry for more of Rogers

The limelight proved as awkward as a hip injury for Mat Rogers when the Gold Coast Titans toasted the retiring dual international.

Rogers is doing it all again next week after he helped the Titans down Wests Tigers 21-18 to book a home final.

By rights, Rogers should not have played the Gold Coast's NRL regular season finale - but the Titans were sure glad he did.

Oh, and the packed Skilled Park stadium which doubled as a Rogers family reunion were sure appreciative too.

Restricted by a hip flexor complaint, Rogers still stepped up with an injury cloud hanging over captain Scott Prince to help inspire the thrilling win.

Overcoming injury to take on the in-form Wests Tigers with a top four finish on the line was tough.

But it paled in comparison to what the 34-year-old dealt with before the game.

A huge week promoting Rogers' regular season finale was a big enough distraction - but it got real interesting when more than 60 family and friends arrived on the Gold Coast.

"I have been a bit overwhelmed," Rogers said.

"All my family are here. It's a bit like a wedding." Rogers is still on track to finally avoid the bridesmaid tag before he bows out at season's end.

However, the veteran pivot promised their next Skilled Park game would be without all the hoopla of Friday night, no matter how much he appreciated it.

"I just want to be low maintenance for this team," Rogers said.

"Being the oldest guy here the last thing I want is for the 'Mat Rogers Show' to take over what we are trying to achieve.

"I didn't want that to happen this week, I think we managed it pretty well.

"But that is all behind us now - now it is time to play semi-final football." A "busted" Rogers typified the Titans' courage after Brad Meyers (ribs), Ash Harrison (broken nose) and Steve Michaels (shoulder) came off to receive treatment in the bruising clash.

"They were game ending injuries but we had to keep them on," Titans coach John Cartwright said.

Then there was Prince - the Titans playmaker ran off clutching his shoulder in the 17th minute after being tackled awkwardly.

Rogers took over at halfback and kicked what would become a pivotal 29th minute field goal.

After receiving the "magic touch" to his damaged AC joint, Prince came back in the second half to help hold out a fast finishing Wests Tigers.

The Titans' injury list already included Luke Bailey (broken thumb) and Preston Campbell (hamstring), although the latter will be available next week.

While Cartwright said they would "lick their wounds" before assessing players on Monday, Rogers believed nothing would stop their walking wounded from playing finals footy.

Certainly Rogers wasn't finished with yet.

"It's hard to move, cough and sneeze," Rogers smiled.

"It's not real pleasant.

"But I have plenty of time to heal in a few weeks' time."

Will our u20's get to play the curtain raiser? I see they'll play Rabbitohs, Warriors or possibly Bulldogs, none of which will have a home game for 1st grade next week. I'm guessing not, in which case will there be a curtain raiser?

Yup.......

Works out well getting the Warriors because it means we make them travel back and forth across the Tasman on only a 6 day backup.

It also means that the Tigers lose home ground advantage because they have chosen to host the game at the SFS - the Roosters home ground!! The Chooks can win that and Manly or Parramatta can beat the Panfers and we are straight through to a prelim.

It would be great for our U/20's to play before us but it would be MASSIVELY unfair if they let the team who finish 8th get home ground advantage over the team that finished 1st.

Big boisterous crowd guaranteed and we make them travel twice across the Tasman on a 6 day backup. Friday night means we are the only game of the night so the eyes of the entire RL world will be on Skilled Park.

We have beaten them on each of the past 4 times we have played them and Rat has made them his bunny the last two times we met them across the ditch.

It will be a loss for the Warriors and then straight out the back door when the Roosters and Manly / Canberra beat the Tigers and the Panfers respectively.

Meanwhile, a potential crisis at hooker is the only dent in a confident Warriors outfit eyeing Friday night's NRL playoffs clash with the Titans on the Gold Coast.

Kiwis hooker Aaron Heremaia injured an ankle in the Warriors' impressive 26-12 last-round win over Parramatta in Sydney on Saturday night ? a result that saw Ivan Cleary's side finish the regular season fifth and now facing the fourth-placed Titans away in the opening weekend of the finals.
With backup hooker Ian Henderson still struggling with an ankle injury that has plagued him over the past month the Warriors have rookie Alehana Mara as the next best specialist.

Their other option would be to upset the makeup and rhythm of the team by moving fullback Lance Hohaia into hooker and rejigging their potent backline.
"The biggest concern is hooker with Aaron injured and we're still not sure about Ian. We will have to look at that," Cleary said, confirming that workaholic backrower Micheal Luck will be fit to front the Titans after missing the Eels match with a cut to his knee.

But Heremaia has been a key and every effort will be made to get him fit.
He has had an outstanding season with his distribution and running game from dummy half crucial to this campaign.

By Wayne Heming and Laine Clark AAP Mon, 06 Sep 2010 16:13:10
Injured Titans match-winner Preston Campbell has unselfishly volunteered to return off the bench in Friday night's semi-final showdown with the powerful Warriors at Skilled Park.

While the diminutive fullback declared himself fit to return on Monday he was uncertain how his hamstring would stand up under game pressure.

Campbell has played close to 250 games for four different NRL clubs but surprisingly never before suffered a hamstring injury.

And the 33-year-old livewire admits to some niggling fears about his comeback.

"I put in a good training session this morning (Monday) and touch wood nothing happens this week, I'll be right for Friday night," said Campbell after team-mate Scott Prince declared his shoulder injury would not stop him taking on the physical Warriors.

"I'm right, but I'm a little worried, I haven't done a hamstring before.

"I've known blokes who have done hamstrings and they feel alright, then they do it again.

"I'm just hoping I'm not one of those blokes."

The Titans have covered Campbell's absence well in three games.

William Zillman has been impressive and Campbell says he can't just expect to walk back in despite his vast experience.

"Zilly (Zillman) has been doing a great job there and if Carty (Cartwright) wants me to come off the bench, that's what I'll do," said chirpy Campbell, still keen to go around again in 2011.

"I can see that happening, because they have been playing well the past three weeks since I haven't been there.

"If I was thrown back into fullback, I'd do my best there and Carty knows that."

Cartwright is sweating on a host of injuries but won't make a final call until Thursday.

Their injury list reads like a who's who - skipper Scott Prince (shoulder), prop Luke Bailey (broken thumb), Steve Michaels (shoulder), Mat Rogers (hip), Brad Meyers (rib) and Ash Harrison (broken nose).

"We are hopeful that they will all play," Cartwright said.

"They will all be picked in the 17 but we won't be able to clear that up until Thursday.

"They are all a concern. It is a bit early. I wouldn't even try to pre-judge who would be right.

"We have to get the balance right - the risk versus the importance of the game."

Prince, who threw a massive scare into the Titans when he left the field in the first half against the Wests Tigers last weekend, said he would have an injection and strap his shoulder.

"I'll definitely be playing on Friday night," said Prince who took the Tigers to a grand final victory in 2005.

"In the game I thought `what have I done' and I came off straight away.

"It's just an AC joint that will be pretty sore for a month but I can't do any more damage."

Prince accepted he would the number one target of the big Warriors forwards.

"That was going to happen anyway, most teams run at the smaller guys on the edges.

"With the shoulder injury they're going to direct some of their bigger boys at me but that's for me to worry about.

"If I thought I was going to be a liability to the team, I wouldn't be playing."

Rubbish.

It's a final that could prove to be an elimination final if we lose. The loser of this very fixture last year was eliminated and with Penrith's form very shaky and the Tigers playing a team that has beaten them twice this year we would be mental for thinking that our season is not on the line this Friday night.

If a player is right - or even close enough to right - they should play.

Luck back for finals clash against Titans
Loose forward Micheal Luck returns in the only change to the starting line-up for the Vodafone Warriors’ week one NRL finals clash against Gold Coast at Skilled Park on Friday night.
The 28-year-old 193-game veteran missed the back-to-back wins against Brisbane and Parramatta after being sidelined with an ugly cut in his left thigh in the 24th-round encounter with Manly.
But today coach Ivan Cleary confirmed the Queenslander would be back to take on Gold Coast.

“Everyone knows how tough Lucky is and we’re certainly glad to have him back in the side,” he said.

“Being the sort of person he is, he wanted to play last week but it wasn’t possible.

“His cut has healed really well, he’s been putting in the work and he’s ready to go against the Titans.”

Luck’s return results in stand-in loose forward Jacob Lillyman reverting to his interchange role as a front rower. Also named on the bench is hooker Alehana Mara, Ben Matulino and Ukuma Ta’ai along with Jesse Royal and Joel Moon.

“Jake deserves a lot of credit for the job he did filling Lucky’s role against the Broncos and the Eels. He was terrific in those two games.”

The Vodafone Warriors qualified for the post-season as the fifth-ranked side after a 14 wins-10 losses record in the regular season, the club’s best output since 2003. It’s the third time in the last four seasons the Vodafone Warriors have reached the playoffs and the sixth time since 2001.

The squad leaves for Queensland tomorrow morning for the first qualifying final against a Gold Coast side which has twice edged the Vodafone Warriors this season, 24-18 in the opening round of the campaign at Skilled Park in March and 28-20 at Mount Smart Stadium on August 1.

“We hung in with them both times but were a bit off both times in some areas of our game,” said Cleary.

“You can’t afford to be down in any part of your game at any time let alone in the finals, especially not against a side like the Titans who make it so difficult for you.

“We’ve shown a lot of improvement in the second half of the season, as we needed to, but it’s a whole lot different now. We’re up against a side which is well served at hooker, in the halves and at fullback. They know how to control tight games and we’ll have to work really hard to stay with them.

“It’s been a great week for us winning the Club Championship Trophy. That’s an achievement we’re all proud of but now we have to put that behind us and switch on to finals football.”
Friday night’s match will herald a milestone in prop Russell Packer’s career. Still only 20, he’ll make his 50th NRL appearance since making his debut in 2008. Lillyman will edge close to his 100th by making his 98th appearance.

Winger Manu Vatuvei needs one try to claim the club’s all-time try-scoring record outright. His 77th career try last weekend drew him level with Stacey Jones’ mark and he also equalled Sean Hoppe’s regular season record of 19 tries (Vatuvei snaring his 19 in just 18 games).

Always worry about the Warriors. Even at Skilled, playing the Warriors makes me feel like I'm at Mt Smart. With the number of New ZealanderS here, it's like their second home.

I know the Titans will give it one big shake but reality check. The team that wins will not necessarily be the best team. It will be the team more focussed on the task; the team for whom the ball bounces; and the team that gets the rub of the referees.

Go TITANS!!!

Warriors centre Jerome Ropati will play through a lingering groin strain when the club begins the NRL playoffs against the Titans on Friday night.

8 September 2010 - article from www.rugbyleague.co.nz

Warriors centre Jerome Ropati admits he's far from 100 percent fit for their playoff against the Titans this week.

Ropati's been battling a groin injury over the last week and had to have a cortisone injection to get him through last week's win over the Eels.

He says it's still causing problems throughout this week and says it felt normal after the injection but he's definitely still trying to recover.

Ropati says he'll definitely play this weekend, despite not being fully fit.

Game on Titans. Hope you have a full squad i'd rather play your greats & accept the outcome than any thing less. Congratulations Scotty Prince Dally M half back the consensus in Warriors forum is that he deserves it (aside from all the moans about no Warriors in there). Your fans don't seem to have the same heated selection debates we do at the moment. Ropati's injury for example alot of us would rather Moone play ( Ropo drops a lot of ball) in fact we'd like Toopi back thanks.
Evenly matched Forward packs, don't listen to nonsense about the "Big WARRIORS pack that was years ago we laugh about that over here our pack is one of the smallest in the comp. But they are tough and very fit. Our main concern is that we don't fall into the trap of targeting Prince because we'll get carved up by freind campbell rodgers. Brad Meyers wins the beard growing contest. Archer is good news to us not happy with refs over here he's best of a bad bunch.
No one over here thinks it will be easy...we have failed to show your mob respect of late theres been a lack of passion for eighty minutes against the Titans (might be Scottys such a nice bloke its hard to dis like your lot )

But that won't be the case on friday Wariiors will give full respect for the whole game and i can't wait might see you in the grand final whatever the result Titans. I love this great game of ours.

Titans v Warriors
Skilled Park
Friday 7.45pm

Don?t for a second think these two sides will hold anything back in Week One of the finals.

While the McIntyre System generally protects these two sides from elimination, there are certainly no guarantees? just ask Manly from last year!

If two of the three lower teams manage to jag a win over the weekend, then the loser of this match is history ? just like that ? it?s all over.

With the Raiders in form and the Roosters capable of anything on their day, plus the Dragons previous record as scratchy finalists, it is entirely possible this situation could eventuate.

If this isn?t motivation to give it everything, then we?re not sure what is.

Also, if this scenario does go down, then the winner would earn a week off and grab a regional home final in the grand final qualifier stage of Week Three!

So yes, while it might just turn out to be a dead rubber? it might as easily be much more important and as such we will be privy to a cracking match.

The Titans warmed up for the finals with a hard-fought win against fellow contenders the Wests Tigers last week and it took their recent tally to six wins from the past seven starts.

They welcome back livewire fullback Preston Campbell for the clash, which sees William Zillman move to the wing and Jordan Atkins join an extended bench.

Prop Luke Bailey also returns but Anthony Laffranchi stays in the front row and Matthew White moves to the bench, allowing Greg Bird to start in the second row once more.

For the Warriors, last week provided a win against the Eels, taking their recent form to five from six. Seven weeks ago they did however fall to the Gold Coast in Auckland.

They are boosted by the return of warhorse Micheal Luck, who missed two games after sustaining a horror gash to his leg reminiscent of a shark bite.

He comes back in at lock, which shifts Jacob Lillyman to the bench. Joel Moon has also been added to the reserves list, which has six players at this early stage.

Prop Russell Packer celebrates his 50th NRL game, while winger Manu ?The Beast? Vatuvei needs just one try to claim the club?s all-time try-scoring record. His 77th career try last weekend drew him level with Stacey Jones? mark and he also equalled Sean Hoppe?s regular season record of 19 tries.

Watch out Titans: We mentioned it in the preview last week and the Wests Tigers proved it to be correct ? the Titans are susceptible to clever dummy-half play; they need to tighten up their marker defence. Robbie Farah carved them up last Friday night and almost jagged a Dally M medal in the process.

The Warriors have made 13 line-breaks from dummy half this season, which is the third most in the NRL. The Gold Coast have now conceded 12 from dummy-half, which is the equal worst in the competition. The home side have also conceded nine tries from dummy-half, which is the third worst in the NRL.

It?s quite simple ? the Titans? middle defenders need to dominate the tackle and if they don?t they still need to fight to be up and square so they can?t be exploited.

Watch out Warriors: Discipline could be a real concern for the visitors. A vocal home crowd, no doubt to be sold out, will be very one-sided and while penalties are generally minimal in finals matches, the ones that do come are usually critical. The Titans have given away 132 penalties this season but the Warriors gave away 152, which was the second worst in the NRL for the regular season.

They had big problems in the areas of holding down, offside, late tackles, leg-pulls, ball stealing and markers not square. One penalty could be the difference between moving on and elimination so they must be as close to squeaky clean as possible.

James Maloney has to be singled out here ? the five-eighth has been hammered 28 times this year (and sin-binned last week), while his nearest team-mates were penalised just nine times.

Where it will be won: The battle between the crucial playmakers, halfback, five-eighth and fullback will be massive here and have a huge bearing on the result. The forward packs have similar output over the season and the outside backs have some size or speed but it is in the 1,6 and 7 jerseys where this game will be decided.

The home side have the luxury of the best halfback left in the finals in Scott Prince. Despite being under a small injury cloud, we are assured he will play ? and it?s a good thing too. When he was off the field last week the Titans struggled but when he returned he clinched the game. So far this year he has three line-breaks, 16 line-break assists, four tries, 22 try assists, 30 tackle-breaks and 22 errors.

For the Warriors the halfback job falls to Brett Seymour. Having played just half the season his numbers aren?t as good and he will need to lift to get to Prince?s level. Seymour has one line-break, four line-break assists, one try, 12 try assists, nine tackle-breaks and 10 errors.

At five-eighth the Titans have veteran Mat Rogers who comes into the clash with plenty of big game experience across two codes. Rogers, who takes a back seat to Prince but who comes up with vital touches, has four line-breaks, seven line-break assists, five tries, seven try assists, 58 tackle-breaks and 16 errors.

For the Warriors James Maloney is the man at pivot. As a relative rookie he has been impressive all season; he has seven line-breaks, four line-break assists, 10 tries, 14 try assists, 50 tackle-breaks and 28 errors. One of the features of his game is support play and the ability to attack from a long way out from the line.

At fullback the Titans have a former Dally M Medal-winning halfback in Preston Campbell. The pocket rocket is a perfect link into the side and can get attack started as well as provide for others. Campbell has 10 line-breaks, six line-break assists, three tries, eight try assists, 66 tackle-breaks ? but 32 errors for the year.

The Warriors also have a former half in Lance Hohaia at the back. Hohaia has nine line-breaks, four line-break assists, six tries, six try assists, 82 tackle-breaks to go with 16 errors.

Another critical part of this game will be cross-field kicks. The Titans are defusing just 50 per cent of all cross-field kicks and the Warriors are worse at 47 per cent. The wingers will be under the pump as Titans duo William Zillman and Kevin Gordon have defused just 25 and 36 per cent respectively, while the Warriors have a massive concern as Vatuvei is at 29 per cent and Kevin Locke is at zero ? yes that?s right, zero per cent success on cross-field kicks!

The history: Played 7; Titans 5, Warriors 2. The Titans have won five in a row against the Warriors including two previous matches this season. The Titans prevailed 28-20 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland recently and also won 24-18 at Skilled Park way back in Round 1.

The Titans have a 100 per cent, three-from-three record against the Warriors at Skilled Park.

While this year?s clashes were close, an average 17.6 points decided the other five games.

Conclusion: It really is anyone?s game here, as the Warriors have proven they can travel well this year. But the home side, with a fit Scott Prince, are likely to have a small edge.

Prince?s class looks to be the biggest difference between the teams and as such the lean would be slightly to the Titans.

But expect a close one, even if the history between the clubs suggests otherwise.

Match officials: Referees ? Tony Archer & Gavin Badger; Sideline Officials ? Paul Holland & Russell Turner; Video Ref ? Bill Harrigan.

Televised: Channel Nine ? Live 7.30pm; Fox Sports ? Delayed 10.30pm.

Warriors Fan Say's :
on the eve of the big one Titans fans the nervous excitement grows, Rugby league is getting better coverage here in NZ thanks to making Fridays show down with the Well liked Gold-coast (our most disliked teams are the Roosters GF loss 2002 Panthers Knock out 2003 finals and the Broncs debut game 2005 loss) , Rugby union doesn't have the big game this weekend the All blacks have slipped to second for a change. The fridge is stocked and the jerseys washed. Our mob are growing beards with mixed reception from the mrs and the boss. Early sledging and bravado has changed over here to serious respect for the opponent most see it as dead even now. There's a bit more paranoia about the Refs over here and penalty counts keep us awake at night. Conspiracy theories abound including the release of Ropatis hip injury as counter propaganda to the Titans list...Ropati has been quietly getting injections for the groin strain for weeks.
Get along to the game Titans fans in full voice we're pleased there will be kiwis but we are hoping you lot go off as well to make for a White hot atmosphere in the most important game of the Round

The toughest man in our team is shark attack survivor Michael Luck who brushes off a gapping wound to the bone in a desperate bid to test himself against fellow Queenslanders.

Preston Campbell ruled out for Titans

AAP Thu, 09 Sep 2010 11:42:58

Veteran fullback Preston Campbell has been ruled out with injury by the Gold Coast Titans on the eve of their NRL finals clash with New Zealand Warriors.

Campbell succumbed to a hamstring complaint, forcing Titans coach John Cartwright to slot William Zillman in at No. 1 with Jordan Atkins coming in on the wing.

Cartwright won't back a decision on the rest of their injury concerns until Friday morning.

Scott Prince (shoulder), Luke Bailey (thumb), Mat Rogers (hip), Brad Meyers (ribs), Steve Michaels (shoulder) and Ash Harrison (broken nose) must prove their fitness.

Former Warriors centre Clinton Toopi has received a boost before playing his ex-team, signing a new one-year contract for season 2011.

Would have been nice to let Presto, Prince and Rogers zip around the warriors but not to be. If Preston had been playing, he wouldn't have been 100% anyway so its best to leave him out! READY: Preston Campbell trains with the Titans on Thursday. Picture: Adam Head

MERCURIAL Gold Coast Titans fullback Preston Campbell could be a shock starter in tonight's NRL final against the New Zealand Warriors.

Campbell, sidelined last weekend with a hamstring injury, is set to make the final call on Friday morning after he pulled up well last night from a solo training session.

Running under the supervision of trainer Ron Palmer, Campbell said his suspect hamstring felt fine. Coach John Cartwright had effectively drawn a line through Campbell's name, with Will Zillman to remain at fullback and Jordan Atkins on the wing.

But Cartwright could be swayed by a late plea from Campbell to let him loose against the Warriors at Skilled Park.

The Titans have always gone by Campbell's gut instinct on fitness decisions, famously letting him have one week off earlier this year when he declared after a surf that he might sit out the upcoming match.

"If the hamstring doesn't feel tight in the morning, I'll put my hand up to play," Campbell told The Courier-Mail.

"Touch wood, everything will be all right. It feels good now and I reckon it will be fine."

If Campbell plays, the Titans are likely to be at full strength, with skipper Scott Prince likely to have a pain-killing injection to help him play out the game with a shoulder injury.

Props Luke Bailey (thumb) and Brad Meyers (ribs) trained strongly and centre Steve Michaels tested his shoulder with some defensive drills on teammate Clinton Toopi.

Meyers was thought to be in most doubt, but the fact giant utility Sam Tagataese was not at training indicated the coaching staff had confidence in the man they call "Big Red".

Cartwright said he did not think it was wise to risk Campbell a month after he tore the hamstring but he left the door open for his return.

"It's a big blow. He's a real important part of the side, Presto, for what he does on the field," Cartwright said.

"He's a leader. But we have done it without him a few times, so we have built a good platform to be able to cover for him."

The Warriors had a closed training run with coach Ivan Cleary declaring his side was one to 17. But there is doubt over the fitness of Kiwi Test centre Jerome Ropati (groin) with former Bronco Joel Moon on standby.

Warriors lock Micheal Luck declared himself a certain starter despite suffering a gruesome leg wound in the August 21 match against Manly when his thigh was sliced by the soles of Sea Eagles forward Anthony Watmough's boots.

Luck spent a night in a Sydney hospital but asked to be discharged after he was crammed into a balcony ward with three elderly women.

"I didn't want to be there any longer," he said. "The leg has healed. I was just lucky it didn't cut into the muscle."

More than 23,000 tickets have been sold for tonight's match. Both sides can count on plenty of support, with the Gold Coast's big Kiwi population.

NRL Qualifying Final Previews - Titans v Warriors

The amount of painkilling injections that league players will take to ensure they get on to the field in the finals is remarkable. Scott Prince basically has a separated shoulder and Luke Bailey has a broken thumb. You'd be shocked if they didn?t play in this match on Friday night as the finals series opens with a beauty. No better example can be found of how important the finals are and to what lengths our NRL stars will go chasing the ultimate prize.

The Titans face the upstart Warriors who present a real danger to them. The visitors do not have many weaknesses and the home side will have to be at their gritty, determined best to outlast the boys from Auckland. They will. The Gold Coast were quite easily dispatched from last years finals and their defence was the major issue; not this time. They are a year older and wiser and the addition of Greg Bird will provide the tenacity and experience they need to get over the Warriors - but only just.

My Tip: Titans 21-20

Yes its game day ! kick off ten o'clock our time in NZ the kids are all ready to stay up late and they're all ready asking Dad "are we there yet?' cheeky sods. Prestos return is good news if it's a goer...i want see our boys play your best. I'm expecting a tight contest hope fully free of controversy. Both Forward packs will turn up i'm confident of that, it will be fast and over too soon. You have the best half back in the world and no disrespect to Uate but we have the best winger. I will be interested to see the defensive plan for containing Manu, Des Hasler established the blue print when Jamie Lyon ran a blocking play... which didn't focus on shielding T Rex as much as getting in Manu's way specifically...letting T Rex worry about the other backs following through. The net result was the beast didn't get any where near the contest for the ball and was shut out of the game completely, i wont be surprised to see Manu shut down tonight however we will still go there why wouldn't you, John Cartwrights no fool and he's had a good look at him heading into game three. Reliance on one player wont be the theme tonight your men will be motivated to keep Prince's work load balanced not just on defence, i really rate Matt Rogers experience in games like this one, even if you look at just the goal kicking alone James Maloney has been losing his mojo in this area and is on debut for the finals. The warriors haven't had a 40/20 option before and so have evolved to play without it, our Australian halves have brought it to the team and its like Christmas for the energy reserves in this team.
I think i read in here an article on Aaron Heremaia being injured? in fact its Alehana Mara (came in for Ian Henderson) he's a loss to us a new find for the club from our juniors, he is a very dynamic runner out of dummy half and is similar to Isaac Luke when he goes for darts. Lewis Brown will likely do spells at rake to rest Aaron Heremaia

Titans go in deserved favourites but we are very confident over here so dare i say it if you win tonight you deserve it because you would have beaten a serious finals opponent.

All the best to you all and your families enjoy the game.

At least we know we'll have the refs on our side. :p

To beat the Warriors we'll need a lot more than that though.
#1 Deny Manu a chance at the ball in the air.
#2 Get in the faces of Lewis Brown, Ukuma Ta'ai etc because they will look to cause havoc on the fringes.

I'm confident our boys will do the business, but I've got a lot of respect for the Warriors and we obviously can't take them lightly.

Cartwright rules out Campbell comeback

By Laine Clark AAP Fri, 10 Sep 2010 15:09:10
It pays not to underestimate diminutive Gold Coast fullback Preston Campbell.

But Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright on Friday quickly hosed down talk of the veteran No.1 pulling off yet another surprise in their NRL finals clash with New Zealand Warriors.

Cartwright drew a line through Campbell's name ahead of Friday night's Skilled Park showdown after the livewire fullback tested his troublesome hamstring in a searching fitness session on Thursday.

Campbell, 33, was reportedly backing himself to play, claiming he would wait until Friday morning before determining his availability.

Campbell has made a habit of overcoming the odds - guiding his pint-sized frame through a glittering 12-year NRL career is a testament to that.

However, Cartwright said that Campbell would be a no show in front of what was expected to be a packed Skilled Park.

William Zillman will again slot in for Campbell at fullback with Jordan Atkins filling the wing vacancy, setting up a showdown with Manu "The Beast" Vatuvei.

And Cartwright has also given the green light to their other injury concerns which reads like a club who's who - Luke Bailey (thumb), Scott Prince (shoulder), Brad Meyers (rib), Steve Michaels (shoulder), Ash Harrison (broken nose) and Mat Rogers (hip).

There had been major concerns for Bailey who recently underwent surgery to repair his shattered left thumb.

The Warriors have welcomed back hard-tackling lock Micheal Luck, who missed their last two wins due to a nasty leg gash.

Kiwi Test centre Jerome Ropati (groin) is expected to play for the Warriors, although officially Joel Moon is on standby.

Warriors fan Chokes:

Congrudlations Titans your men blew us off the park and completely out of

our groove last night. There were no excuses from the Warriors the

refereeing was fair Rogers scored twice and had a try robbed off him. The

biggest diference last night was mentally, your blokes in typical Titan

fashion soaked up the big hits without sign of intimidation went about a

very well coached plan, big Red as you call him was all class till the very

end, he made Ukuma look like a sore losser. Clinton Toopi ran Manu off the

ball as predicted and there was no kicks to his wing as a result. Scotty

showed why he has surpassed J.T this year as number one. Zillman player

of the match. You Can win the Grand Final this year its well and truly within

your capabilities, the secound half wasn't much to go on in comparison to

the first the error count of course, but that was un characteristic of the

Tiatans and i don't see that being a problem for you next week (i refuse to

entertain we will be gone while your mobs having the week off yet)

The spells broken and your basking in the glow of finals victory & more

importantly your players are absolute beleivers now. We're bemoaning the deficiencies in our game last night but i've steered away from that because it was forced on us by a better team.

ALL the best Titans and i can say now good luck, thats it for me MT Smart

Finest game in any colours maybe?? I still think he makes way for Preston because I would be loathe to tinker with that bench of ours that is just providing us with so much grunt. He can still have a great impact from the wing and is clearly a better player than Atkins who has done a great job, but really offers us very little with ball in hand.

Agree with the call about Michaels - he will be the first centre picked from here on out, just killing it. The way he put Gordon away in the corner showed what a classy player he really is and their partnership will just grow and grow from here.

The other positive to take out is that Bull got through OK and will undoubtedly be better for the run. He might have needed the hitout.

And what a luxury for the boys to get a third successive week at home and a second successive week with a 7-day turnaround. As good as we were last week I'm tipping we can be even better next Friday night. Or, fingers crossed, the one after...

Great article. It really is true about the crowd taking ownership of the chants are really sticking and other areas are even starting their own

The Legion is truly the product of he labor of love of dozens of fans. And we are all leaders and all just as important. I try to avoid limelight. And trust me I don't call myself leader or skipper. And when I pass on anyones names to media, I refer to them as Legion leaders. But I revel in seeing things click. Like how every works as a team and how it is really resonating with Titans fans.

Doug Davey and Stephen are indeed the engine room of The Legion. And Doug I absolutely applauded you on your passion and also skill. Because I think you innovate the drumming and also time it perfectly.

I could name dozens more and at the end of 2010. I will and thank you all!

Nowdays I sit back in the wheelchair area with a focus of trying to get more fans involved and spread out the flags. I guess ultimately at the end of the day we can all be sitting, well standing up the front.

It was a treat to be back down there last night though. My ears are still ringing.

YES!!

Won a few hundred on the boys tonight and will be rolling every cent into a big all-up for tomorrow night - I am declaring it the Titans bet of the century!!

Get down the TAB and have as much as you can on the Roosters all up the Tigers and if you collect we will all be buying tickets to a preliminary final on a fortnight!!

I had $200 on the double at odds of $5 which makes the prelim even sweeter!!

It is hard to believe that a loss to the Warriors last night would have left the Titans out, while the win gives them the week off.

That's the way the comp has been this year, though. Everything has been so close.

If the Dragons get the job as they should it will look like this next week:

Raiders v Tigers at Canberra. Winner plays St. George
Roosters v Panthers at SFS. Winner plays us.

Not sure what happens if Manly wins...

I hope for your sake and the sake of the Legion you are able to get the section behind the posts AND get General Admission. Surely the Titans Administration would be able to organise something with Suncorp Stadium management to let this happen?

Raiders vs Dragons at Canberra

good work on your multi i won on that too, dragons i think will win tomorrow but will want to avoid canberra by all costs, i hoped for this week off so everyone can heal their injuries because lets face we do have a lot of niggling ones plus we are one game from a premiership showdown

Doesn't matter what happens tomorrow, you will only have to play the Dragons or Canberra if you make the GF

Man, I am going to be sure to book tickets in a dedicated titans fan area at suncorp. I had the biggest, sorest sook of a loser warrior fan sitting behind me at skilled and he nearly ruined my night. It was nice to be able to point out that we have now won 6 in a row and it might he time to concede that his warriors just don't match up well against the titans.

It was great to see our attack clicking like it did. If we can keep that up, I can feel a premiership coming on.

Love it. Had $500 on the boys to make the top 4 at the start of the year paying $2.40 and a cheeky $200 on them to win the comp at $11.

Should of waited until 8 weeks out from the finals and could of written my own ticket!!!!
