Campbell, Laffranchi, Rogers, Bailey in doubt. :nope:

I think the Tigers have similar injury concerns with Lawrence (broken jaw - out for a month), Ellis (corked calf), Skandalis (buttock - serious doubt), McKinnon (reinjured hamstring) on top of Fulton (who didn't get up for the Storm game with a calf injury) and Gibbs who is reportedly out for another week at least.

It's a must win game for both teams so whoever we put out there has to be ready to go and step up bigtime.

I'm not at work this week, does anybody know what day they will be training out there at Robina and what time they will run the session. Is it Thursday morning usually?? I might head out and get geared up for Friday night.

Heavy injury toll takes gloss over Wests Tigers' NRL win over the Storm
By Christian Nicolussi | August 30, 2010

Rather than celebrating the brilliant three-try performance of Benji Marshall, Wests Tigers are counting the cost of a horror injury toll they hope won't ruin their charge to the finals.

The Tigers moved into outright second with their win over Melbourne Storm but coach Tim Sheens did not have one player on his interchange bench at full-time.

Centre Chris Lawrence was rushed to hospital for surgery on a broken jaw he suffered in the fourth minute and Gareth Ellis picked up a corked calf.

Veteran John Skandalis injured his buttock - and might have played his final game in a Tigers jumper - while Wade McKinnon reinjured his hamstring in the final minute of the game.

Sheens was also forced to scratch Liam Fulton (calf) before the game and he has Bryce Gibbs (kneecap) still sidelined until the first week of the finals.

"It's a pretty fair injury list," Sheens said. "Chris had an issue coming into the game and had taken a knock a few weeks ago.

"They are operating on him tonight and if we're still there in a month he'll be back.

"I'd like to think the boys can play well enough and give him another opportunity.

"In the meantime, Geoff Daniela, Mitch Brown and company ... guys who have helped get us there ... it's amazing if you keep your head down and go well you could find yourself playing semi-finals football."

Because of the quick turnaround for Friday's clash against the Titans - which could determine whether the Tigers finish second - Sheens does not have the luxury of giving his walking wounded proper time to heal.

Suprised Melbourne couldn't get one up over the Tigers yesterday with all the changes.

Tigers use every player they can spare to gain solid position on ladder

IT IS said that the more players you use in a season, the less likely you are to make it a premiership season. Wests Tigers, who have used the third-most players leading into round 26, are bucking that trend.

Despite a horror injury run that will continue into the final round and finals, the Tigers are in second place on the NRL ladder and providing coach Tim Sheens with reason for optimism.

It has been suggested that the Tigers took full advantage of having relatively few players involved in the mid-season representative fixtures, but the fact they have used 30 players so far this season proves they have faced adversity as well.

''Although we didn't have anyone in the State of Origin, we've had a fair injury list,'' Sheens said. ''At least the other sides got to use their players, even though they were tired.''

The list of players used by the clubs this season is telling. North Queensland and Canterbury have used the most players (32), which partly explains why they have struggled, while the sides with the fewest alterations include St George Illawarra, Manly and Penrith.

Of course, for the lowly sides, personnel changes can be the result of poor form, but that can hardly be said of the Tigers, who are second on the ladder.

''We have had to use a few, but the depth of the club has been better this year,'' Sheens said. ''Wests and Balmain-Ryde are in the [NSW Cup] finals and the [under] 20s are one win out.''

The Tigers side for Friday night's clash with Gold Coast will be a patched-up one. Already missing will be centre Chris Lawrence, who had his jaw plated on Sunday night after suffering a break.

Fullback Wade McKinnon (hamstring) has also been ruled out, while Sheens still holds out hope that John Skandalis (buttock) and Gareth Ellis (calf) can recover in time. Bryce Gibbs could return from a fractured kneecap, although Sheens is reluctant to risk him. He said Liam Fulton (calf) would not play against the Titans.

The Titans have their own issues, too. Prop Luke Bailey is in doubt after scans revealed he has a fractured thumb - although the fact he played the last quarter of Saturday night's loss to Cronulla with it would give them some confidence he might still play.

Five-eighth Mat Rogers (hip), back-rower Anthony Laffranchi (shoulder) and Preston Campbell (hamstring), are also in doubt for the match, which could decide second place.

The weekend was a damaging one for others. The Knights will be without captain Kurt Gidley and fullback Shannon McDonnell for their last game of the season, against Melbourne at AAMI Park on Sunday, and former Storm prop Ben Cross is in extreme doubt due to a broken hand. Gidley sustained cartilage damage behind his kneecap midway through the second half of Newcastle's 26-18 loss to the Dragons. He is expected to recover in time to be available for Australia's Four Nations tournament following the NRL grand final.

Broken thumb won't stop Bailey: Rogers

Playing with a broken thumb wouldn't be a problem for Gold Coast "machine" Luke Bailey, according to Titans teammate Mat Rogers.

Bailey is one of the Titans' major injury concerns ahead of Friday night's NRL clash with Wests Tigers - a game which could lock up a home final.

The Titans enforcer is yet to receive a final verdict on his suspected fracture - an injury that usually means four to six weeks on the sidelines.

But Rogers did not need much convincing ahead of their crunch game at Skilled Park.

"He will play. He's a machine," Rogers said on Monday.

"He's one of the toughest blokes I have played with - he just keeps going.

"If there is a one per cent chance of him playing I will back him." Bailey will know more when he visits a specialist by Wednesday but has already fuelled speculation he may play with a custom guard.

"If we can make a guard I think I will play this week," Bailey told Gold Coast reporters.

"The doc seems to think I can't do any more damage." Bailey is part of a worrying injury list for the Titans as they line up against the in-form Wests Tigers.

Talisman Preston Campbell (hamstring) is another concern after not training with the main group on Monday.

"It's a different injury with Presto - you can't rush a hamstring," Rogers said.

"We want Presto firing at the business end. He will be 100 per cent I am sure for the first semi." But Rogers (hip flexor) and backrower Anthony Laffranchi (shoulder) are expected to play.

Certainly Rogers was backing himself to run out on Friday night.

"Yeah, I will be playing. There won't be a doubt," he said.

He better be - the Skilled Park clash on Friday night will pay tribute to the outgoing dual international's glittering career.

"For me and my family it has been a long journey, it culminates with our final home game of the regular season this weekend," Rogers said.

"It's exciting. I am going to have a lot of family and friends who are travelling a long way to come along and watch the game - my sister and her husband are coming over from Perth.

"So hopefully we can put on a good show for them." The Titans received a reality check ahead of the clash due to last round's shock loss to the Sharks, snapping a five-game winning streak.

"I never like to say it was the loss we needed to have," Rogers said.

"I never want to lose when I play football.

"But it helps you reassess where you are at.

"I don't think we had any bad stuff creep into our game in the last five games.

"We just let ourselves down in little areas - it adds up.

"We just have to get back to what won us those five games." They better - they line up against a red-hot Wests Tigers who are showing distinct signs of their 2005 premiership-winning razzle dazzle.

"They are a great side. They can attack from anywhere," Rogers said.

"We are going to have to be ready."

Laffranchi's hand up for Tiger fight

Luke Turgeon | August 31st, 2010

THE Gold Coast Titans have received another boost ahead of this week's big clash against the Wests Tigers, with former NSW and Test back rower Anthony Laffranchi declaring himself a certain starter.

Laffranchi has recovered from a shoulder injury, which kept him out of last week's loss to the Sharks, and will resume his place in the back row.

The news comes a day after dual international Mat Rogers announced that a hip problem would not keep him out of his farewell match at Skilled Park on Friday night.

Prop Luke Bailey (fractured thumb) and fullback Preston Campbell (hamstring) remain under an injury cloud.

''I am good to go,'' said Laffranchi.

''I pulled up sweet after a bit of treatment.

''It was disappointing missing a big game last week against the Sharks, but it is an even bigger game this week against the Tigers, playing for a top four and a home semi.''

Laffranchi is expected to return to his No.11 jumper, with Greg Bird shifting to the bench.

Bailey goes under the knife

By Laine Clark AAP Tue, 31 Aug 2010 16:46:25
Luke Bailey's hand surgery hasn't ruled the inspirational prop out of the Gold Coast Titans' crunch NRL clash with Wests Tigers on Friday night - yet.

Bailey went under the knife on Tuesday after sustaining a broken thumb in last round's shock loss to the Sharks but the ex-Test frontrower was still named for the Skilled Park showdown.

A Titans spokesman said Bailey would be reassessed later this week but club medical staff would be guided by the specialist's advice.

Bailey has been pencilled into the starting front-row - but livewire fullback Preston Campbell has been rubbed out after succumbing to a hamstring complaint.

Other injury concerns - backrower Anthony Laffranchi (shoulder) and pivot Mat Rogers (hip) - were named in the starting side on Tuesday.

Laffranchi slots straight into the second row to ensure he lines up against his former club after missing the Sharks boilover.

While Laffranchi was pleased to be back, he was keeping his fingers crossed Bailey would be given the thumbs up and run out on Friday night.

"He's our inspirational leader, a cornerstone of our pack," he said on Tuesday.

"Fingers crossed, or thumbs crossed, he will play." Laffranchi looked forward to taking on the team he helped secure the 2005 NRL trophy.

But the significance of the clash far outweighed any sentiment for Laffranchi.

Win and they lock up a top four spot - and a home final.

Lose, and they could drop to sixth.

Laffranchi said bowing out of the 2009 finals "in straight sets" had steeled the side ahead of their crunch game.

"We had some pretty good form coming into the finals last year and bowed out in straight sets," he said.

"We got that taste of defeat which is hard to swallow at that time of year.

"But it was a good learning curve.

"We are probably in a better mental state this time around.

"I would say we are a top four team for sure.

"But we are not thinking beyond Friday night." Laffranchi admitted there was a sense of deja vu watching the Wests Tigers this year.

"They are definitely playing with the same kind of momentum and razzle dazzle (as 2005)," he said.

"But they are also playing with composure, they are putting together an 80 minute performance - that's a danger sign.

"They have their injuries but they still have their key strike weapons in (Robbie) Farah and (Benji) Marshall.

But Laffranchi believed their inspirational half Scott Prince was ready to fire after finding a perfect foil in Rogers.

"I think Matty is thriving at six, he's really balanced Princey out," he said.

"Princey seems to be more relaxed, the pressure is off him, he's probably not our so called go to man in attack.

"They really complement each other. It's good to see the two old fellas going around." Rogers will be celebrated at the Friday night match - his final regular season home game before retiring.

Commemorative "Rat" t-shirts - named after the dual international's moniker - will be on sale at the ground.

They aren't great by any stretch of the imagination but to me they are the two best the NRL has by a country mile. The NRL obviously sees the importance of this game and their appointment gives it match of the round status for sure.

I reckon the worst are Shayne Hayne and Jason Robinson and after he slaughtered us at Shark Park I hope we never see that little pr!ck again in 2010.

Titans v Wests Tigers Preview

NRL.com Wed, 01 Sep 2010 13:25:00

Titans v Wests Tigers
Skilled Park
Friday 7.35pm

If you think these two sides enter this match content, knowing they’ll be around in the finals, then you are seriously underestimating their desires and the mammoth importance of this result.

For the home-side Titans this match is a must-win if they want to host a home final – a huge advantage in the opening week of the post-season.

For the Wests Tigers, a spot in the top two is on the line, the only place on the ladder which guarantees a second bite of the cherry should you lose your first final.

And besides this, both sides want to come into the finals with a winning feeling, not the drop in confidence that comes with a loss.

It all adds up to what should be a sell-out crowd, a massive atmosphere and one hell of a contest. Essentially, it’s finals time come early. Imagine the psychological advantage for the side that wins if they meet again in September.

The Titans come into the match in fourth spot on the ladder and can actually steal second spot themselves if they win by 10 or more points and the Panthers lose to the Sharks.

While the Sharks have been much tougher in recent weeks the reality is a win should be the Titans’ first goal as it would guarantee a top-four berth, then the 10-point margin should be next on the list as it would see them leapfrog the Tigers to at least third.

After falling to the Sharks last weekend, snapping a five-game winning run, the side has just the one change.

Anthony Laffranchi returns to the second row, which moves Greg Bird back to the bench and Sam Tagataese out of the side.

The Wests Tigers put themselves in the box seat to take second by beating Melbourne last week. Believe it or not, since entering the league as a joint venture in 2000, the Tigers have only been second on the ladder for 12 total weeks!

A win here makes second a certainty for the side; however, a loss by 10 or more and a Penrith win drops the side to fourth and into the Friday night final from which the loser was eliminated in Week One last season. If they lose by less than 10 they will still hold on to second or at worst be third.

Fullback Wade McKinnon is out injured, giving Mitch Brown a start at the back, while Chris Lawrence’s broken jaw means he’ll be replaced by Geoff Daniela in the centres. John Skandalis is also out of the side with the new guys on the bench being Willie Mataka and Daniel Fitzhenry.

Watch out Titans: This match shapes as a big one for Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah. The Tigers have scored 10 tries from dummy-half this season, which is equal first in the league, and the Titans have conceded nine from the same area, which ranks them third last.

In terms of dummy-half line-breaks the Wests Tigers have nine and the Titans have let 11 through the gates, ranking them second last.

Farah has six dummy-half line-breaks and will be out to terrorise the Gold Coast defence. The Titans’ markers need to be switched on at all times.

Watch out Wests Tigers: The Gold Coast are the best side in the NRL at forcing line drop-outs but it is two types of their attacking kicks in this game that could bring points rather than pressure.

The Wests Tigers are the worst side in the NRL at defusing chip kicks; with Scott Prince, the Titans have an expert at the practice. The Tigers successfully defuse just 56 per cent of chip kicks, giving Prince and co. a massive green light to use it.

If chip kicks are on the menu, so too will be cross-field bombs. The Wests Tigers defuse just 47 per cent of cross-field kicks and with a new-look backline, this number could get even worse.

Where it will be won: The battle of the back row is the pivotal one here. Of course the match-up of key playmakers like Scott Prince and Benji Marshall will be massive also, but the back row of both teams brings plenty of grunt to the contest.

For the Wests Tigers it is Chris Heighington, Gareth Ellis and this week Simon Dwyer as Liam Fulton is still injured.

Heighington is averaging 112 metres and 31 tackles a match, has five line-breaks, five line-break assists, three try assists, four tries, 93 tackle-breaks and 26 offloads. Ellis runs 106 metres and makes more than 30 tackles a game, has five line-breaks, three line-break assists, three try assists, four tries, 46 tackle-breaks and 10 offloads.

Dwyer’s involvement is much less having played most of his games from the bench but when starting last week against Melbourne he punched out 109 metres and added 30 tackles.

For the home side Titans, the back row consists of Mark Minichiello, Anthony Laffranchi and Ashley Harrison, with Greg Bird ready to come from the bench. Harrison is making 95 metres and adding 35 tackles a match plus he has three line-breaks, a line-break assist, a try assists and three tries. Laffranchi averages 105 metres and 33 tackles and has added nine line-breaks, seven tries, 45 tackle-breaks and 30 offloads. Minichiello runs 102 metres and makes 20 tackles each week and has 12 line-breaks, three line-break assists, nine tries, 94 tackle-breaks and 16 offloads.

The history: Played 6; Titans 3, Wests Tigers 3. The Tigers got home by a single point earlier this year at Campbelltown to square the ledger against the Titans. There have been two matches prior at Skilled Park, with both sides taking a win apiece. The average winning margin between the clubs is just over eight points.

Conclusion: A few injuries to the Wests Tigers’ line-up and the home ground advantage probably gives the Titans the edge here as they look to lock up a top-four berth and the home semi that goes with it.

The result is just that tad more important to the home side; as such you could probably lean their way with confidence.

But the Wests Tigers are certainly in the contest and can’t be discounted. It should be a close one – a real cracker.

Match officials: Referees – Tony Archer & Gavin Badger; Sideline Officials – Paul Holland & Adam Devcich; Video Ref – Steve Clark.

Televised: Channel Nine – Live 7.30pm (NSW), delayed 9.30pm (Qld & ACT); Fox Sports – Delayed 11.30pm.

Marshall ready for Lui to fire

By Steve Jancetic AAP Wed, 01 Sep 2010 17:38:09
Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall has paid young halves partner Robert Lui the ultimate compliment - comparing him to the man who combined with Marshall to win the Tigers' only NRL title in 2005.

Marshall said he saw plenty of similarities in the play of Lui and Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince - who on Friday night will line up against the Tigers rookie in what shapes as a battle for second spot.

"Him and Princey are similar in a lot of things they do with the flair they have, the way they show the ball and how good they can be when they run the ball," Marshall said.

"I think Robert Lui's only just starting to find that out the way I had to when I was his age."

A young Marshall teamed up with Prince to mastermind the Tigers' only premiership triumph, which also remains the club's only finals campaign.

But with a return to the post-season already booked for 2010, Marshall said how the Tigers performed in their comeback to finals footy would depend heavily on the 20-year-old's efforts.

And that meant Lui finding his voice, with Marshall encouraging the young playmaker to take control of the game to give him a genuine running mate for the first time since Prince's departure from the club.

"He struggled to try and overrule me and Robbie (Farah) on the field, which is pretty hard to do because if no-one else says anything I'm just going to say it," Marshall said.

"I tell him that all the time `if you don't say anything, you don't get the ball.'

"Slowly, slowly he's at a point now where he's actually telling me what he wants and demands the ball now, which is nice.

"I've been waiting for it to happen for a long time - I haven't had a consistent halves partner for four years so it's been nice to see Robbie doing well.

"When defences and other teams have to worry about what Robert Lui's doing, that's going to take their mind off me for a second and opens it up a but more for me I think."

The Tigers have won four of six games since Lui returned from a knee injury in round 20, and can wrap up second spot heading into the finals with a win over the Titans at Skilled Park.

THE Gold Coast Titans have suffered a blow ahead of tomorrow night's NRL clash with the West Tigers after Luke Bailey was ruled out with a thumb injury.
Bailey underwent surgery earlier this week and hoped to play with a protective guard but has been ruled out.

Bailey is expected to be replaced in the front row by either Brad Meyers or Michael Henderson with Luke O'Dwyer tipped to be added to the bench.

The Titans must win their final regular season match at Skilled Park to ensure a home final.

Bit of a blow there and a surprise to see O'Dwyer in the mix - would have thought James or even Ridge had the jump on him. You think Taga has been overlooked because of the play the ball error when hard on attack against Sharks??

The Bull will definitely be missed but if we can win without him he should be raring to go for a home final in week 1.

The way I read it, either Meyers or Henderson will go from the bench to the starting side, which leaves a bench spot open for O'Dwyer. So maybe Taga isn't being dropped???? I wreckon Toopi would have copped more heat for his 'lapse' than Taga, not that Cartwright is quick to dropped players like that anyway.

No Bull as Titans hit pre-match hurdle
Luke Turgeon | September 2nd, 2010

TITANS pack leader Luke Bailey has failed in his bid to take on the Wests Tigers at Skilled Park tomorrow night.

Bailey, who underwent surgery to repair his fractured thumb on Tuesday, did not train with his teammates in their final session at Robina this morning.

Titans medical staff are hopeful that Bailey will be right to play in the first week of the finals.

As expected, Preston Campbell will also not line up against the Tigers as he continues to battle a hamstring tear.

Both Mat Rogers (hip) and Anthony Laffranchi (shoulder) are certain starters.

O'Dwyer called in for Tigers clash

Jessica Bell
2/09/2010 3:11:06 PM

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans utility Luke O?Dwyer has been called up for tomorrow night?s blockbuster against the Wests Tigers at Skilled Park after prop Luke Bailey was today ruled out of the match.

Bailey fractured his thumb in the Titans upset loss to the Sharks last week, forcing him to miss the annual battle with the Tigers for the Larry Corowa Shield along with livewire Preston Campbell (hamstring).

Jetstar Titans coach John Cartwright said Bailey?s injury was worse than first expected with the prop suffering multiple fractures and a decision on his availability for the first week of the finals would be made next week.

?Well he only had an operation yesterday or the day before yesterday I think so it was a little bit bigger operation than what they initially thought. He?ll miss this week but at this stage we?ll just see how he progresses next week,? Cartwright said.

?You?re playing with a guys career so if the doctor says he?s okay and 'Bull' can handle the pain well then he?ll play next week ? but we?ll just have to wait and see.?

With Bailey ruled out, Cartwright has promoted O?Dwyer onto the interchange bench with experienced forward Anthony Laffranchi shifting to the starting front row and Greg Bird moving from the bench into the backrow.

?When you?re heading into this stage of the year your players will play anywhere for you; that?s what you want and that?s what we?ve got here,? Cartwright said.

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans captain Scott Prince added: ?He?s (Laffranchi) obviously played some footy up front and he?s certainly got the looks for front row, he?ll do a good job for us.??

The clash against the Wests Tigers is set to be a tough battle with the Titans banking on a win to secure a top-four finish and a subsequent home final in week 1 of the finals.

The team will be looking to improve on its performance from last week after suffering an upset loss to the Cronulla Sharks.

The main game kicks off tomorrow night at 7:35PM at Skilled Park. The Titans NYC game kicks off at 5:20PM.

A year older and wiser, the Gold Coast will be out to ditch their "choker" tag ahead of a night that won't just test the Titans' mettle.

The stakes may be higher for arch rivals Brisbane as they try to extend an amazing run of 18 straight finals campaigns with a big win over fellow top eight hopefuls Canberra at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

But the Titans (4th; 14-9) will be out to achieve more than a home NRL final when they line up against another top four aspirant - Wests Tigers (2nd; 15-8) - at Skilled Park on the same night.

For the second straight year the Titans are finals bound - and for the second straight year their mental strength has been called into question.

Alarm bells were ringing after the Titans' 2009 finals crash followed their spectacular 2008 season freefall.

And they weren't getting any quieter when the Titans were upset by the lowly Sharks last round with a finals tilt in sight.

But Titans coach John Cartwright believed the heartache of the past had only steeled his side as they looked to silence the critics.

Asked if his side were mentally stronger, Cartwright said on Thursday: "I think so.

"The intensity has picked up.

"We would like a top four spot secured, but that's in our hands.

"We don't have any excuses."

Ex-Test backrower Anthony Laffranchi - who returns from a shoulder injury to replace Luke Bailey (thumb) in the Titans front-row - was more forthright.

"We had some pretty good form coming into the finals last year and bowed out in straight sets," he said.

"We got that taste of defeat which is hard to swallow at that time of year.

"We are probably in a better mental state this time around."

And they will want to have their heads right.

The Titans will be tested on an emotional night that will see retiring dual international Mat Rogers play in his final regular season home game.

And of course there's the big loss of Bailey.

Not that the Titans can breath easy even if they do secure a home final.

They opened their 2009 finals campaign at home, and bowed out with a 40-32 loss to Brisbane at Skilled Park and 27-2 to Parramatta at the SFS.

But Cartwright did not think they choked.

"I definitely thought we were switched on last year - in my mind we just ran into two better sides," he said.

"Every week some side has to lose and we lost two big ones last year - people can read into that what they like."

In a worry for the Titans, Wests Tigers dangerman Robbie Farah was looking well beyond a top four finish.

"I thought from the start of the season we can win the comp and my opinion hasn't changed," he said.

"If anything I have grown more confident.

"We are in the semis now and we are confident with everyone fit and healthy we are a match for anyone."

Farah plays down Titans bust-up

By Ian McCullough AAP Thu, 02 Sep 2010 18:55:46
West Tigers skipper Robbie Farah has played down any talk of a potential flashpoint with Gold Coast hooker Nathan Friend ahead of Friday's crunch NRL clash at Skilled Park.

Farah and Friend traded blows when the two sides met in a bad-tempered clash at Campbelltown in round 18 after Farah accused Friend of trying to head butt him as they packed down for a scrum.

It was one of three bust-ups between the sides as the Tigers edged out the Titans 15-14, in a game that saw Gold Coast backrower Mark Minichiello sent to the sin-bin for striking.

However, Farah denied there was any bad blood between the sides, who will battle it out for a place in the top two on the ladder in the final round of the season.

"I think it will be a lively game because of the fact that it's an important game for both teams," Farah said.

"We are both trying to get in the top two and it will be a very intense atmosphere and that has nothing to do with what happened at Campbelltown, that is gone and forgotten."

Farah also admitted securing a finals spot for the first time in five years had lifted the pressure around the club and said it would have been a major failure had they failed to make the top eight.

"There was definite pressure on us to make the semis, with the squad we have assembled I think anything less than the semi-finals wouldn't have been good enough. (Coach) Tim (Sheens) will say the same thing," Farah said.

"But it is one thing to make the semis, it is another to do something in them and that is what we intend to do."

The Tigers will be without Bryce Gibbs, Geoff Daniela, Liam Fulton and John Skandalis for the trip to south-east Queensland.

Centre Chris Lawrence is also sidelined with a broken jaw, sustained in the win over Melbourne last week, and Sheens revealed he is considering handing a NRL debut to Balmain-Ryde NSW Cup fullback Sean Meaney, with Mitch Brown to play at centre.

"He is a specialist fullback who represented NSW Residents this year and played well," Sheens said.

"He has played very well in the Balmain-Ryde side that has done well. I'm looking at maybe giving him a start."

The Tigers also announced on Thursday that they would play their home finals matches at the Sydney Football Stadium.

"We are very fortunate to have three wonderful home venues and whilst we love Campbelltown Sports Stadium and Leichhardt Oval, the Sydney Football Stadium is the logical choice to host our much anticipated home final," said Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys.

"The Sydney Football Stadium is widely regarded as the premier rugby league venue in Sydney and we feel strongly that the big games deserve to be staged at the best venues."

Semi finals came a week early , a very tough match with an outstanding 1st half from Rogers but Greg Bird played his best game ever in Titans colours , how tough is the Prince, looked gone then produced a pass only he could throw then slots the goal from the sideline !!

Injuries almost crueled us but 14 & 1/2 players did the job fine.

Bring on the Warriors or Roosters next week & we'll also have the 20's to cheer for again after a last minute win.

Titans seal home final in thriller

THE Gold Coast Titans have secured an NRL home final with a thrilling 21-18 win over Wests Tigers at Skilled Park tonight.

In front of a bumper crowd of 26,103 for what had been billed as a possible Mat Rogers' farewell, the Titans scored quick tries to William Zillman and Ashley Harrison on their way to a 13-0 lead at half-time.

But an awkward landing grounded Prince soon afterwards, and he was taken from the field to stunned silence from the crowd.

Early fears were that Prince may have broken a shoulder bone, but during half-time it became clear he had only knocked his AC joint, and he returned to the field in the second half.

A Mat Rogers field goal on 29 minutes took the Titans out to 13-0 as rain cleared.

Back-to-back Tiger tries, to Chris Heighinton and Lote Tuqiri, signalled a change in momentum early in the second half before the home side steadied with a try in the corner from Kevin Gordon.

Prince shrugged off his injury concerns with a great conversion from the sideline to steady the ship at 19-12 with 20 minutes to go, but no sooner had the Titans kicked clear than Gareth Ellis slid in under the posts to bring it back to 19-18.

A high-shot from former Keebra Park boy Robert Lui on Greg Bird gave the Titans a late penalty, and they held on in a nerve-wracking finish for 21-18.

The Titans will now finish either second or third, depending on other results this weekend.

To cap off a great night on the Gold Coast, the Titans under-20 side downed the Tigers 24-18 to clinch a Toyota Cup finals berth.

As much as Titans need a hard man in White, his late attempted shot on Benji was lucky it missed or he wouldn't be playing finals footy this year...the game was over.

m8 i saw it on telly, benji had a whinge because his team sucks compared to the titans

Congrats to ALL the team on a guttsy win. To the players that played on injured, it shows determination and the will to win. To Ash Harrison, congrats on receiving Man Of The Match Award. Well deserved. As I have always thought/said, stats DO matter.
GO THE TITANS!
