St Joseph's wins challenge

ST Joseph's College rugby league players had the right amount of ticker to claim top honours at the Gold Coast Titans under-16 challenge last Thursday at Ballina.

The event, in its second year, drew a field of 22 teams from across the North Coast.

Taking victory in the clusters were: St Joseph's College, Banora Point; Mt St Patrick College, Murwillumbah; and Kyogle High School and St Johns College, Woodlawn.

Each team participated in last Thursday's final, with St Joseph's maintaining its unblemished record to take the title.

St Joseph's sent 17 of its finest to play three matches and the results were impressive. In game one it beat Woodlawn 20-4, in game two it shut down Kyogle 16-8, and in the final game edged Mt St Patrick's 12-8.

The win over inaugural winner of the shield, Woodlawn College, was particularly impressive.

Titans players Gavin Judd, Jordan Atkins and Sam Meskill showed their support by attending the event.

The competition was organised by Country Rugby League and was sponsored by the Titans.

Country Rugby League development officer Mike Donnelly said he was impressed by the number of schools that had entered.
