IPSWICH JETS v MACKAY CUTTERS
Saturday, May 22 ? 6pm - North Ipswich Reserve

Mackay centre Donald Malone makes his first appearance at the North Ipswich Reserve since the 2008 Queensland Cup grand final. Malone played for the Ipswich Jets that day but on Saturday night he?ll turn out for the Mackay Cutters. The Cutters have named fellow Cowboys contracted players Antonio Kaufusi, Shannon Gallant, Grant Rovelli, Leeson Ah Mau and Ben Harris in arguably their strongest line up so far this season. Despite having won only three of their nine games, the Cutters have been quite impressive this season. Last week, they staged a great comeback to get within six points of Tweed Heads and the week before they pushed an in-form Souths Logan all the way in a bruising battle. Here they will come up against an Ipswich side still hurting after a frustrating loss to the Sunshine Coast. Brendon Marshall returns at centre for the Jets, with Luke Walker switching back to the wing after injury cut short Jarrod McInally?s stint in the top grade. On the milestone front, Chris Giumelli becomes the first Mackay player to register 50 games in the Queensland Cup.

Cutters Put Heat On Jets

THE 20-6 scoreline would suggest a comfortable victory, but Mackay Cutters coach Paul Bramley and his players would probably tell you that tonight’s round 10 victory over the Ipswich Jets was anything but easy.

Mackay was forced to dig deep for its fourth win of the season, with the desperate Jets throwing everything at the Cutters in a spirited second half performance.

The Cutters took a 14-0 lead in the half-time break, but it wasn’t until the 77th minute that the visitors had the match safely in their keep.

Ipswich was the first to score in the second half through a burrowing effort from halfback Ian Lacey in the 50th minute.

Keiron Lander’s conversion reduced the margin to eight points.

Although their execution was lacking, the Luke Walker-inspired Jets kept coming at the Cutters in an entertaining second half.

Mackay extinguished numerous attacking raids by the Jets, whose last throw of the dice ended in frustration with three minutes remaining when youngster Eric Alefosio spilt a bullet-like pass with the try-line wide open.

A try would have set up a grandstand finish, but instead it was the Cutters who had the final say.

In a cruel blow for the home side, Smith Samau’s chip kick in the final 10 seconds was charged down by Jardine Bobongie.

Bobongie gathered the loose ball and set off on a leisurely stroll to the try-line.

The victory will provide the Cutters with plenty of confidence leading into next weekend’s home clash against the Sunshine Coast.

The Cutters always looked in control against the Jets, who spent the majority of the first half camped inside their own territory.

Mackay turned the pressure into points, with Tyson Martin grabbing a double and Todd Seymour getting in on the act to set up a 14-point buffer at the break.

MACKAY CUTTERS 20 (Tyson Martin 2, Todd Seymour, Jardine Bobongie tries; Justin Hunt, Todd Seymour goals) def IPSWICH JETS 6 (Ian Lacey try; Keiron Lander goal) at North Ipswich Reserve.
