TWEED HEADS v CENTRAL COMETS
Saturday, May 22 ? 4.30pm - Ned Byrne Field

This match up promises to deliver some serious entertainment. On their day, the Comets have shown they can score some fantastic tries. They?ll cross paths with a team that could lay claim to being the most dangerous attacking unit at present. The Seagulls have racked up a staggering 54 points in the first half of their last two outings. Their most recent victory ? a 36-30 result over the Mackay Cutters last weekend ? featured several breathtaking tries. The pick of them was Shannon Walker?s superb 90m try in the first half. After taking a bomb deep inside his own half, Walker used his slick footwork to find space and then showed a blistering turn of foot to score a try that any fullback in the NRL would be proud of. Tweed will field an imposing side, with Titans players Will Matthews, Luke O?Dwyer and Ben Ridge named on a formidable bench. In a major milestone, Brad Davis and Selasi Berdie play their 100th Queensland Cup games for Tweed.

A HAT-TRICK of tries from impressive Tweed Heads youngster Kayne Lawton helped the Seagulls to a big victory over the Central Comets at Ned Byrne Field today.

Lawton was in everything as the Seagulls marched to their fourth-successive Intrust Super Cup victory.

More to come ...

TWEED Heads Seagulls marked a day of rugby league milestones on Saturday with a thumping 36-0 win over the Central Comets.

Halfback Brad Davis and front-rower Selasi Berdie notched their 100th Queensland Cup appearances while five-eighth Kayne Lawton scored three tries on his 21st birthday.

Seagulls again started on fire, putting 20 points on the board before the Comets even touched the ball.

But the most satisfying thing about the victory, according to Davis, was the Seagulls' defensive effort, particularly in the second half where they leaked a lot of points in the previous two rounds.

?We had a good win, it was easily our best defensive effort of the year, which was the most pleasing aspect,? Davis said.

?We scored 20 points before the Comets even touched football ... it was pretty unbelievable,? he said. ?In previous weeks we have really let ourselves down in the second half so we kept the lid on it and focused on our second half in defence.?

Davis said the 100th-game milestone wasn't something he was really thinking about.

?It was more about the team and getting the win, but it was a nice little bonus for myself and Sel as well,? he said.

?Obviously, we have played a lot of footy together, Sel and I, and are tight with a couple of other guys.?

Big Selasi's defensive work is what sticks out for Davis.

?Sel leads from the front, especially in defence, and he is always looking to pick the game up with a big hit on the opposition to lift the team,? he said.

Davis said Lawton's effort at pivot capped his 21st birthday nicely. ?He has gone really well since coming back from injury and got up to speed quickly. He is a really good ball-runner and his tries were from individual efforts and good support play.?

Seagulls had good reason to celebrate but yesterday Davis' mind was already on next week. ?We'll continue rolling along and flying under the radar and pushing up the ladder and see where that takes us.?

Too right, very encouraging. I really want Chalky back to full strength and form.
