Titans juniors eye off spot in finals

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans' junior representative sides will head into this weekend's final round with the opportunity to secure semi-final berths in their respective Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell Cup competitions.

In what has been a succesful first year foray into the Queensland junior representative competitions, both sides sit in equal second on their respective ladders heading into this weekend's final round against Darling Downs at Toowoomba.

With the Under-16s scoring a strong 52-6 win and the Under-18s going down 18-8 against Easts Magpies last weekend, it will come down to this weekend's encounters as to who progresses into the intra-state component of the competition.

The top two teams from the Queensland Southern division progress through to the first stage of the finals against the top two teams from the Queensland Northern division.

The Jetstar Titans' under-16s dominant 46-point victory at the weekend now puts them on equal points with the Norths Devils, who have the advantage of a 31 point difference in for and against.

"We are up against the Darling Downs at Toowoomba next Saturday and basically the scenario is that we need to score 31 points more that Souths Logan score in their match up with Wynum,'' said coach Aaron Zimmerle.

"We are capable of that and if get the mental aspect of our game right, we know we have the team to put points on any team.''

Titans Under-18s coach Jamie O'Connor was philosophical about his side's loss ahead of the final round.

"We had our opportunities today and I am confident in our ability to bounce back next week,'' said O'Connor.

"All credit to Easts, they kept the ball away from our forwards and we couldn't really stamp our authority which has been a trademark of our season this year."

This week's games will kick off at 3pm and 4pm at Clive Berghofer fields Toowoomba.
