THE New Zealand Warriors have appointed Australian Craig Walker to replace Kevin Campion as the NRL club's skills coach.

Walker, who was the NSW trainer during its past two State of Origin campaigns, will cross the Tasman after spending 12 years with the Sydney Roosters.

"I had a lot to do with Craig in my time with the Roosters both as a player and as premier league coach and he has an outstanding record," said head coach Ivan Cleary.

"His qualifications, knowledge and ability are of the highest quality. The players will soon find out how fortunate we are to have someone of his calibre involved at the Warriors."

Walker said the Warriors were on the rise.

"I'm excited about the prospect of working with the team and also with Ivan again," Walker said.

"I've had 12 years with the Roosters and I was very happy with my time with the club. At the same time, this is an opportunity and a challenge that's too good to pass up."
