Devils Too Strong For Jets

THE Norths Devils have powered their way to a third-straight Intrust Super Cup victory on the back of a comfortable 24-12 win over the Ipswich Jets.

Norths were never really threatened against a dreadful Jets team, which could barely complete a set of six throughout the scrappy 80 minute contest at the North Ipswich Reserve.

Ipswich bumbled and fumbled its way through the game, much to the disgust of coach Glenn Lazarus who simply could not believe how much ball his team turned over.

Like any good professional outfit, the Devils made the home team pay dearly for its mistakes.

Norths led 12-0 at half-time following tries from Asher Elemani and Troyden Watene.

Elemani was particularly impressive out of dummy half, with his sharp footwork and passing game catching the Jets off guard on numerous occasions.

He also put through a grubber kick that resulted in a try to Aaron Trinder early in the second half.

The simple conversion in front of the posts provided the Devils with a comfortable 18-0 lead.

Ipswich finally opened its account in the 57th minute when the Devils failed to clean up a high kick and Smith Samau was on the spot to score.

However, Norths five-eighth Jacob Fauid put the result beyond doubt with a superb individual try with four minutes remaining.

The Jets added some respectability to the scoreboard with a try to Danny Coburn in the dying seconds.
