Try-hungry Titans sink the Diggers

THE Gold Coast Titans under-16 and under-18 teams are proving to be the competition?s real excitement machines in both the Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga cup competitions respectively.

Together they executed a massive 24-try demolition of the Ipswich Diggers at Parkwood Sharks last weekend and are full of confidence heading into this Saturday?s local derby against the Gold Vikings.

A blistering display of cohesion and control enabled the under-16s to post a staggering 13 tries in their 68-4 win while the under-18s managed 11 in their 56-6 romp over the cellar-dwellers.

While the wins were convincing, both coaches praised the patience and control that delivered the results.

?I am particularly happy that we maintained composure and showed maturity when the score blew out,? under-16 coach Aaron Zimmerle said. ?We could have become complacent and lost our shape and structure but we stuck to the game plan and that takes some doing in a high-scoring encounter like this.?

Meninga Cup team coach Jamie O?Connor was equally delighted with his team?s performance and control of the football.

?We controlled the ball and ultimately the game for pretty much the entire 70 minutes,? he said. ?We laid a solid platform off some good work in the forwards and this enabled us to pretty much score out wide at will.?

Fullback Isaiah Marsh?s four tries and winger Sam Short?s three are testament to that.

This week?s appointment with the Vikings at Burleigh is important for both Gold Coast sides which are eyeing finals? berth in what is a very tight competition.
