Fancy footwork from 300 Titans to dazzle opponents

When the Gold Coast Titans want to intimidate opponents at home games in 2010, they won?t need Luke Bailey ? just 300 dancing kids.

In an NRL first, more than 300 kids aged from three to 18 years will perform an organised entertainment spectacular complete with break dancing, cheerleading, jazz, hip hop and acrobatics at every Titans Skilled Stadium game before kick-off.

Organiser Megan McInally said the new approach to game entertainment was aimed at raising not only the spirit of the Titans team but also that of the fans and the Gold Coast community.

"It?s going to be a pretty amazing thing to watch and we?re hoping it will be something the Titans home games will be famous for," Ms McInally said.

Choreographed and created by dance school owner and So You Think You Can Dance star Anthony Ikin, the three-minute spectacular will debut at the Titans first home match on March 14.

Before then, 20 supervisors will separate the 300-plus performers into groups according to their discipline and teach them their own routines as well as the co-ordinated number created by Anthony Ikin.

"We?ve definitely got our work cut out for us ? it?s going to be a challenge but we?ve got a very elite standard of dancers to work with and it?s going to be an amazing, huge event that we?re really looking forward to," Ms McInally said.

Hundreds of dancers turned out to the audition at the Ikin Dance Australia studio at Varsity Lakes yesterday including Holly Arrow, 14, Michael Huges, 17, and Lauren Campbell, 17. All three teens made it into the senior performance group and were thrilled to have been chosen.

"Are you serious that?s awesome," Ms Arrow said to the judges.

The dancers will be at Skilled Park for pre-match entertainment from March 14.
