We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Jackson had 13 number one hits during his solo career.

Story developing...

More from TMZ....

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

When you think about it, MJ would have been under so much continued stress over his life. Maybe it took his toll as well as the pressure of all these comeback concerts...

He had a large amount of gigs coming up in England so he would have been trying to get in shape for the strain this would put on him.

I know millions make a joke out of him, but I love him.

I'm a child of the 80s and early 90s and his music was magic. And he did so much for charity and causes. I don't know if I can hack listening to his music if he passes on. It used to be all just fun and positives and hope.

The world is going to be a poorer place. I know a few of my friends who adore MJ and will be heartbroken. But his music will be forever, just like 2pac, Hendrix, Lennon, Elvis. I guess I can listen to 2pac music hours a day without being overcome with grief, so hopefully I can enjoy his music for what it was and enjoy what it is all about.

I just wish he could have gotten that come back concert.

It's weird, he had this immortal feel to him. Very much unexpected though. Despite the weird things he did to his body through plastic surgery, he had to be a fairly fit/healthy person to do what he did.

Two diamond albums say otherwise. I don't shoot down other people's tastes in music. I realise it's relative to everyone individually.

On Sky News they are replaying the Oprah interview with Michael in full. Really interesting stuff, especially to hear MJ from his own mouth. Actually they just cut it off.

Some of my favourite songs were... apart from the most known are the ones like Man In The Mirror, They Dont Really Care About Us, Heal The World.... LOL I even like the corny ones like JAM!

I loved how all of his clips were like mini movies and he put so much effort and love into their production.

He was the KING OF POP, he will never be matched or exceeded.

Yea I can not believe this. I was only talking about Jeff Goldblum with dennis exactly a week ago. Three major passings in one day. I can never ever remember a day like this!

The report I got was reporting that the source was NZ police. So there may not be much margin for error with this... When this happens, it always seemed that we hope against hope that things will be ok, or not so bad. But it always seems to end badly. I remember feeling the same (But it was alot worse) with Steve Irwin.

Jeff was involved in many big movies. Jurassic Park, The Fly, ID4,...

first thing i had this morning, i couldnt believe it at first. He was close to making a comeback too. He must have been stressed but id say he overdosed on something (sleeping tablets perhaps) and that and stress got to him. One would say if he never made the changes to himself that he did, this would never have happened.

So true, I'm stunned. I got to get these concerts on DVD! And to see the emotion on peoples faces. And it is only heightened because this is at the end of the cold war and Michael represented all the reasons why the west one it. Just amazing.

How sad is this...

A LAWYER for the doctor who was with Michael Jackson when he died says the physician found the entertainer in his bed with a faint pulse.

Houston attorney Edward Chernoff says in an interview yesterday with The Associated Press that Dr Conrad Murray went into Jackson's bedroom and saw that he wasn't breathing.

Chernoff says Jackson was still warm and had a faint pulse and that the doctor immediately began administering CPR.

The lawyer's statement counters claims Dr Murray was with the singer when he collapsed, in front of Jackson's eldest son, who thought his father was joking around - but soon stood "in a trance" as the King of Pop's personal doctor frantically tried to revive him, a family confidant told the New York Post.

"The horror of it all is that Prince thought his dad was just being his dad and clowning, but it was real, and he watched as they worked on him," said Stacy Brown, a Jackson family biographer who has spoken extensively to relatives since he died.

"Prince was stunned - in a trance - just watching," Brown said. "There was no movement, just looking around and not really processing what was really happening."

Brown said he was told that when Jackson went into cardiac arrest, he was in the living room of the $100,000-per-month Los Angeles rental with the 12-year-old boy - whose full name is "Prince" Michael Joseph Jackson Jr.

Also there were the pop star's personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray, his long-time friend and one-time manager, Frank DiLeo, and a security guard named Tippy.

That morning, Jackson had been packing up his things in preparation to go to London for an upcoming series of 50 concerts there.

At around 11.30am, Michael was given a shot of Demerol and soon collapsed on the living-room floor, Brown said.

"The guard and the doctor picked him up and put him on the bed from the living room, and that's when they started CPR," he said.

"The doctor said he was 'very pale and cold to the touch,' " he added, citing what he was told by relatives.

As Murray worked on Jackson, Tippy first reached out for the pop singer's father, Joseph, in Las Vegas, to tell him something was wrong.

"Joseph screamed at them to call for help," he said.

"A huge commotion ensued about why 911 wasn't being called and why he wasn't getting help."

Brown says Tippy then called 911. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the call was received at 12.21pm local time.

Jackson was rushed to UCLA Medical Center, where doctors shocked his heart and inserted a breathing tube to try to revive him, but were unsuccessful. He was declared dead at 2.26pm West Coast time.

Chernoff says Murray suggested to Jackson's family that an autopsy be performed.

He adds that the doctor did not prescribe or give Jackson the drugs Demerol or Oxycontin.

The lawyer says any drugs Murray prescribed were given in response to a specific complaint from the 50-year-old entertainer

Prince was picked up from the house by a Jackson cousin and taken to the hospital where his grandmother, Katherine, met him.

Jackson's other children - Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11, and Prince Michael "Blanket" Jackson II, 7 - were home at the time of his collapse, but did not see their father die.

They were taken to the grandparents' compound in Encino, Calif.

Murray met with police late yesterday. DiLeo did not answer repeated phone calls to his cellphone and his voicemail box was full.

It was just a matter of time. His stomach was full of pills and he was bald according to the autopsy. And he was saying he only wanted to do 10 concerts not 50 and that he was saying that he didnt want to live or somehting like that. His personal doc has been scrutinised for not giving him CPR on a hard surface like its meant to be done on. Interesting..

Sad day, great entertainer leaves us.

Just watching the funeral service now, was moved by one of the speakers, he said ?Whatever you do, always be the best. If you?re going to be a street sweeper, be the best little street sweeper that ever did sweep.?

This to me is a great saying, we all have dreams, sometimes we dont exactly become what we set out to be, but that is no excuse for not trying to be the best of what we are. Whether that is father/mother, brother, fan, footballer, friend. You can always be the best you can be.

it was Martin Luther King III quoting Martin Luther King Jr.

another quote i took from the memorial was "Smile though your heart is aching" taken from a song by charlie chaplin (michaels fav song)

I just still can't believe he is gone. But I know that it will probably never feel like he is gone. It will for his friends and family who knew him personally. But for the world and the fans, he has risen into an eternally ascended star.

His work is timeless and everyone is going back rediscovering it and enjoying it all at once. Before we were dripfeed Michael's work as we moved through life with him. There is just so much to get lost in and it is of such diversity and quality it can be savoured. And there will certainly be new material to come in the future.

What a life Michael has had and what an effect. One thing I remember Michael for would be being an icon of western culture that probably helped the west win the cold war. That is certainly one of my memories from the 80s.

I'm glad you guys watched the memorial as well. I have to agree with both your highlights.

Michael would have been so proud of that Memorial. Also Al Shafton was incredible.

The best thing to me was when Paris at the end wanted to speak on behalf of her father....

"Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father I could imagine," she said, dissolving into tears and turning into the arms of her aunt Janet. "I just want to say I love him so much."

I couldn't imagine a more heartfelt and moving thing. Out of everything anyone said, this was the most emotional. And it turned everything, the way we think of Michael on its head. Because we were never exposed to his personal family life.

I thought....wow. What an amazing few sentences to bookend Michael's LIFE. As we move into the next era of his LEGACY.

LONG LIVE THE KING! THE SOUNDTRACK TO HUMANITY!

Michael Jackson's "This Is It" To Be Presented In Theaters by Sony

Beginning October 30th, the world will have a front-row seat for Michael Jackson’s final concert, as Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment release Michael Jackson's This Is It.

This Is It is being produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and will be drawn from hundreds of hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage, captured in high definition with state of the art digital sound as the late singer was preparing for his concert series in London. The film, which will also offer select sequences in 3-D, will provide a unique career retrospective and feature interviews with some of Jackson's closest friends and creative collaborators.

The announcement was made by Michael Lynton, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of the studio, Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, Chief Executive Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, and Rob Stringer, Chairman of Columbia/Epic Label Group, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. The companies serve as the principal entertainment divisions of Sony Corporation.

Joining Sony in the announcement was The Estate of Michael Jackson, administered by his longtime attorney John Branca and veteran music executive John McClain, a Jackson family friend for more than 40 years. Proceeds the Estate earns from the film’s release will benefit the Michael Jackson Family Trust, the entity that Mr. Jackson specified in his will is to receive all of his assets.

The rights to the exclusive footage were acquired from AEG Live and The Estate of Michael Jackson. Sony Pictures and Sony Music will co-produce with AEG Live and the Estate, and Sony Pictures will distribute the film worldwide. Randy Phillips and Paul Gongaware of AEG Live will serve as producers of the film.

The majority of the film's footage was shot in June, 2009 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, and The Forum in Inglewood, California, as Jackson prepared for "This Is It," the series of fifty concerts Jackson planned to present at the O2 Arena in London.

This Is It will offer Jackson fans and music lovers worldwide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer, his career, and the stage spectacular that would have been. The film will provide moviegoers with an unforgettable front row experience compiled from extensive footage that shows Jackson's meticulous preparation for his 2009 London shows.

Said Branca, “Our goal is to work with partners who treat Michael’s legacy with dignity and respect, while allowing us to substantially build the value of his estate for the benefit of Mrs. Katherine Jackson, Michael’s three children and the charitable causes that meant so much to him during his life. We are confident we found the right partners for this project in Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment. Sony and Michael enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial history together, and it’s only fitting that the relationship continues.”

Said McClain, “This film is not only a tribute to an artist who created excitement every moment he was on stage, but also is a fitting gift to the millions of fans worldwide who loved him and who he devoted his professional life to entertaining. John and I are thrilled to be working with Sony to build on Michael’s musical legacy in a way that will generate significant proceeds for his family and for children in need.”

"People who have seen this footage are astounded by the amazing quality of Michael Jackson's performance," said Lynton. "This historic recording of the last time he sang and danced on stage shows the legendary artist in an incredibly powerful way, with crystal clear images and sound. We understand the importance of producing a film that pays tribute to Michael as an artist, and are honored to work with the Estate of Michael Jackson to give audiences the gift of his final performances. I know this film will serve as further proof that Michael Jackson is one of the greatest entertainers who ever graced a stage."

"Michael lives on through his songs, his creative genius, his body of work and his passion for his art," said Rob Stringer. "He was a perfectionist on stage and through this unique film, audiences will be able to see, many for the first time, how much Michael poured into making his performances as special as they were perfect."

Said Kenny Ortega, director of and Jackson’s creative partner on the This Is It concert, “The world will see what our team was so fortunate to experience, which was the full commitment, passion and creativity that Michael put into this project. He was the architect of This Is It, and we were his builders. The footage that was captured from the early stages of the production to our technical rehearsals at the STAPLES Center in L.A. will show Michael as he truly was, creatively involved with every aspect of the production, from the staging and choreography, to the music, lighting, production design and conception of the original short films and video backdrops. It will also show Michael as one of the greatest entertainers in the world and one of the industry's most creative minds. This Is It was Michael’s last theatrical work and although it was still a work in progress, I think the footage will show that the process was something that Michael deeply enjoyed and that it was clear that he was on his way to another theatrical triumph.”

In the coming weeks, additional information about the film will be available at www.michaeljackson.com.

Peter Schlessel, President of Worldwide Affairs, negotiated for the footage on behalf of Sony Pictures. Branca represented The Estate of Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.

Five of Jackson's solo albums - "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label - are among the top-sellers of all time and “Thriller” holds the distinction as the largest selling album worldwide in the history of the recording industry with more than 70 million units sold. Additionally, singles released from the Thriller album sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, another all time record.

During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the epic "Thriller." Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

When this movie comes out, imagine the hype that will surround it. Imagine the lines down the street and the celebrations?

They were very smart to tape the rehersals in HD!
