There are a few of you out there that are like me and into collecting trading cards.

On the 23rd March 2009 Select will be releasing the new set of NRL cards.

The set includes:
195 card Basic common set
195 card Holographic jersey card set; 1 card per pack
48 card Folied signature card set; 1 card per 6 packs
32 card Sketch card set; 1 card per 12 packs
16 card Superstar mascot gem card set; 1 card per 18 packs
4 card Double Trouble card set; 1 card per 216 packs

I have seen some of these cards and Select really need to do something new. Even if they just change it a little bit by retitling their sub-sets and adding new special effects. Last years sets had Gems Foil signatures and Sketch cards. The year before had Sketch and Gems.

This years set is exciting because it is a new set but it really is getting a bit stale.

They really need to include an expansion set mid-late year. To include a further 6-8 players in each team. For example Josh Graham is in his 3rd year at the club and he hasn't had his face on a card yet and I could think of at least 7 others that would deserve to be on this years cards. Surprisingly mark Minichiello is out.

Hey guys, here is a thread about this year's series of trading cards.

Picked up 4 packs today and scored only one Titan, Nathan Friend but got a Billy Slater gem card.

Who else is collecting?

My wife and I have been smashing these packs to pieces. We now have almost 2 full sets. 6 gem cards 16 Foiled signature cards and 11 Sketch cards.

This year I am going to try to get a common set signed by every player.

Tracey is more addicted than me.

We have 4 sets of the Titans common cards. We need 3 Titans jersey cards. Anthony Laffranchi Foiled signature card and Preston Campbell Sketch card.

I have got about 250 doubles of these cards. Email me your numbers in about 2 weeks and I will get them to you next game.

No Titans doubles though. I use them to get signed

Every year I get 1 set of Titans commons and a set of Titans commons signed by the 12 players. I have 3 sets of signed commons this year already and the cards have only been out 1 for week.

I managed to get 6 of the 12 Bulldogs cards signed so I will have to trade around to get the other 6 throughout the year.

If you want a set I have a mate that has a card shop at Carrara Markets that sells the set for about $35-$40.

I used to have cards from about 1976 and a set of Scanlens cards from 1977 (long gone now)

Mine weren't quite that old. ;) Early 80s through to the 90s.
My Greg Alexander cards were my favourites, but had John Cartwright too.

I managed to sell the 1977 set in about 20 years ago for about $100.

If I manage to get my 2009 set fully signed, I know a guy who sold last years fully signed set for about $1800.00 so it is well worth trying to do.

I finished my 2009 Titans collection today. I have all 3 Titans foil signatures, 2 Titans Sketch cards and the Mascot Gem card of Ash Harrison. I have 6 sets of common cards (3 of the sets are signed) and 2 sets of Die Cut Jersey cards (1 set of die cuts is signed).

Had a great night last night getting the Raiders cards signed. 9 out of the 12 players were on hand and they were only to happy to sign several cards each for me. I got 3 sets signed by each player 5 or 6 by Campese and Carney.

27 players out 192 have signed. Unfortunatly 4 or 5 players are already overseas from this years collection.

I will now keep 1 set and swap the other cards for the other players I need from teams like Roosters, Panthers, Storm Bulldogs and Knights who have either been or are not playing up here this year.

I now have 91 out of 192 of this years cards signed by the players. Im half way there.

I have completed the Titans and Knights players. 1 player off the Rabbitohs. 2 players off getting all of the Storm and Raiders. 3 players off completing the Dragons and Im about half way through the Panthers and Roosters. All the other teams will be up here later in the year.

I am now up to 120 signed cards out of the set of 192 players. I am getting down to the nitty gritty cards and also the teams that haven't played on the Coast yet this year.

There are alot of players that are playing NSW Cup and are very hard to get when you are living in QLD. Can anyone help in Sydney. Teams such as Bankstown Sports, Auckland and Windsor

Aaron Groom, Lincoln Withers & Epaluhame Lauaki are all in the set but are overseas so Im no chance of getting them.

Does anyone know what has happened to Stuart Webb from St Geoge Illawarra.

I know where I can get it for about $50 but Im a bit hesitant. There are only 500 of them so it is worth while.

In other card news, The Daily Telegraph have released their 2009 collection which went on sale with the purchase of the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. Great cards. They have randomly inserted a metalic set into packs this year making them more admirable to collectors. It will be a real challenge to get a complete set of metalic cards. It even makes collecting a common card set hard because they are randomly inserted. And guess what... They have got a set of 16 metalic mascot cards. Scorch, Nytro, Buck, Brutus and our very own Blade have all got an NRL trading card each.

You sure can. I have gotten mine from Gold Coast newsagencies. My bet is that the Courier Mail will release the same set in a month or two. They did it last year and the year before with the Telegraph set. These sets are already popping up on the internet for about $50. Which is about what you would pay if you did it daily at the newsagents anyway.

Just 58 cards to go to get a complete 2009 Signed set of NRL cards

I have gotten 138 signed out of the 192 players. Cowboys, Eels, Tigers, Broncos are yet to come to the Coast and play. I need 44 signatures from those 4 teams alone. I have swapped and bought a few cards along the way but the expense is nothing compared to the value of a signed set.

Im almost there... Just 34 more cards to complete a fully hand signed set. 23 of them play for either Boncos, Cowboys, Sharks or Tigers and are yet to play on the Coast. 2 cards will have to be sent overseas.
