The JRLA is pleased to announce the arrival of the country?s first ever professional grade coach, Dean Thomas, on Saturday January 10th. Dean was appointed head coach in 2008, and will be conducting a two week training camp with 40 locally based players, a precursor to Jamaica?s campaign to qualify for the 2013 Rugby League world cup in England.

Dean brings extensive experience to Jamaica?s young Rugby League programme having coached professionally in England at Salford City Reds in the English Super League (2006-2007). Dean has also held head positions at Gateshead Thunder RLFC (head Coach 2004-2006) and Sheffield Eagles RLFC (2002-2004). Dean will be assisted by locally based assistant coaches Antonio Burke (JDF) and Romeo Monteith (Duhaney Park Sharks).

Rugby League European Development Officer to Visit.

Jamaica will also be visited by Kevin Rudd (European Development Officer) for the first time from January 23-26. Kevin will meet with the local governing body and is expected to conduct interviews for a Rugby Development Officer post that the European Federation is interested in funding.

That's great news on both accounts. Big steps forward. Especially the RLEF Dev Officer.

Appointing such a coach for the national team also shows how serious they are.
