Melbourne Origin Tickets On Sale

WITH a World Cup match between Australia and England just days away, Melbourne has today enjoyed a sneak preview of next year's Harvey Norman State of Origin promotion.

In the ultimate show of mate against mate, Australian players put aside their green and gold jerseys to attend the event's ticket launch in their state team colours before resuming training for Sunday's World Cup match against England.

Tickets for Game 1 of the 2009 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series - the first ever series opener to be played in Melbourne - go on sale from 9am tomorrow, Friday, October 31.

Game 1 of the Harvey Norman State of Origin Series will be played at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium (currently named Telstra Dome) on Wednesday, June 3.

"Melbourne is one of the great sporting cities of the world so it is fitting that we again showcase one of the world's great sporting contests here," Australian Rugby League Chairman, Mr Colin Love AM, said today.

"This event is the continuation of a rewarding four-year agreement with the Victorian Government to bring marquee Rugby League matches to Melbourne, including Sunday's World Cup match between Australia and England."

Today's Harvey Norman State of Origin ticket announcement provided a glimpse of the TV campaign showcasing the sport's modern-day gladiators in Melbourne.

Kangaroos captain Darren Lockyer, who joined his Australian team-mates and NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, at the launch, is among those excited to have State of Origin return to Melbourne.

"The last Origin match here in 2006 was one of the most memorable I have played in," Lockyer said.

"It was a great atmosphere and the only time I can recall an Origin match when the crowd was split supporting both teams."
