Radio 2GB awarded rights for RLWC08

Radio 2GB has been awarded the rights for the commercial broadcast of matches in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

The station will cover the Opening Ceremony between Australia and New Zealand (Oct 26), Australia v England at the Telstra Dome (Nov 2), the Semi-Finals in Brisbane (Nov 15) and Sydney (Nov 16) and the Final in Brisbane (Nov 22). They will also provide full score details and event coverage across all 18 matches in the tournament.

2GB?s commercial coverage compliments a nation-wide commitment from ABC Radio to ensure that the 2008 Rugby League World Cup is the most widely broadcasted in the tournament?s 54-year history.

Nova has signed on as the 2008 Rugby League World Cup FM promotional partner and will play a key role in the tournament which sees 10 nations compete across 12 venues in 29 days. It begins in Townsville when England plays PNG on October 25, with the Final at Suncorp Stadium already sold to public capacity.

Joining the Australian Radio Broadcasters are BBC Radio, Radio Network NZ and the National Broadcasting Corp of PNG.

The radio partnerships are in addition to the most comprehensive international television coverage ever secured for the tournament.

To date, 115 nations have secured rights to show Rugby League World Cup matches with other nations still in negotiation.
