Crowe, Holmes-a-Court table Rabbitohs bid-Abc.net.au

Actor Russell Crowe and businessman Peter Holmes-a-Court have submitted a formal proposal to buy the South Sydney rugby league football club.

The proposal has been submitted at the same time the club has agreed to a deal it says will secure its financial future.

It has entered into a two-year deal with Souths juniors that will funnel millions of dollars into the Rabbitohs.

The Rabbitohs say any thoughts of them relocating from South Sydney are now over.

Club chief executive officer Shane Richardson says the agreement will help the Rabbitohs once again become a power in the National Rugby League.

"Upon my arrival at Souths, the task there for us was going forward, and it was always going to be a difficult task in the circumstances, [given] how we were suspended from the competition and have had to fight our way back into it," he said.

"And most importantly, all along it has been absolutely crucial for us to stay in the south Sydney area, and stay in Redfern."

Souths chairman Nick Pappas says the new deal with Souths juniors will not jeopardise the Holmes-a-Court takeover bid.

"Peter is a very valued supporter and sponsor of the club and we've enjoyed very much the dialogue we've had with him and with his team to date," he said.

"Today's announcement is separate from but not exclusive of necessarily the discussions which we're having with Peter and they will continue."

Souths should just shut up and take the bid. It worked for Chelsea.
