Titans palace to draw stars

ON the day they bowed out of their rookie season in the National Rugby League, the Gold Coast Titans unveiled plans for Australia's best training facility for professional sport.

The $20 million five-storey complex, next to Robina's Skilled Park, will be unrivalled in this country and the envy of football teams world wide.

"Players coming to the Titans not only will be coming to the best place in the world to live, they will also be coming to the best facility in Australia to train," said managing director Michael Searle.

The facility, to be completed by the end of the 2008 season, is the next step in what will eventually be half a billion dollars worth of Titans infrastructure in Robina.

This includes:

* The $160 million Skilled Park Stadium, which will be completed for use at the start of the 2008 season;

* The $20 million training facility;

* New training fields near Skilled Park;

* Dredging of Mudgeeraba Creek alongside Skilled Park to allow boutique game-day cruises;

* A leagues club in the Robina area.

Searle remains tight-lipped on some of these developments but says work on the training facility would start soon.

"This is all part of our business plan which we have been following meticulously," he said.

"We started with a football team, then worked on the stadium, then the Titanium Bar, next is the training centre and then a leagues club.

"We want to continue to solidify our position in the comp as a market leader. This year we were No. 2 in ticket sales, No. 2 in merchandise and the No. 5 most-watched team on TV.

"These assets will push us towards the forefront of the sport."

Players throughout all football codes will be salivating at what awaits Titans players when the centre is complete.

The ground floor includes a 450sqm gymnasium, 25m heated pool for swimming sessions and rehabilitation, two walk-through hydrotherapy pools, change rooms and merchandise outlet.

Level 1 will be a luxury player precinct including players retreat, players dining area which will be set up as a quality bistro/commercial kitchen for player/staff meals through to corporate entertainment, an indoor training area with climate control to simulate away-game locations, computer pods, lounges/rest areas, a theatrette and audio visual room and players barbecue terrace.

There are specialist services areas on levels 2 and 3 including a roofed terrace area which could be used for a short running track area or rehab area.

Level 4 will house offices and facilities for the football operations team.

Level 5 will be the Titans administration offices, boardroom and audio visual room.

Searle said the training centre was the club's most important football project outside the stadium.

"It will allow the players to have a permanent home and unify the administration and football operations. Everything will be out of the one venue," he said.

"But even more importantly, when you have all 16 NRL clubs operating under a salary cap there are certain things you can do to get an edge. You have to differentiate your club from others and give players a reason to come here.

"Last year we relied purely on the beauty of the beaches, land prices and cost of living. Now we can add the best training facility for a football team in the country."

Searle said the new facility would be clearly branded as Titan territory with not only large logos on the building but also player photos that would stretch from the ground to the top floor.

"The first thing you see when you come up Stadium Drive will be this five-level building with Titans written all over it," he said.

I am so amazed by this, you could knock me over with a feather. This is so far out of this world. In any sport in any country in the world, these would be bluechip facilities!

The Titans are right, this facility will offer a distinct edge on the field and in attracting players to the Coast.

And how about the news that there are plans for a Leagues Club?! We have all been dreaming and living in hope that we would one day have our own club.

2007 was a fantastic year, amazing. And we always saw 2008 as the real launch of the Titans in all their glory. But the Titans have just shown us that the journey isn't over yet! They have grand plans for beyond 2008!

Can you imagine our 08/09 off season, coming into the 2009 season using those facilities.

It definitely looks great and it will put the Titans at the forefront of the NRL and sport in this country in terms of facilities for training and recovery before and after games... :)

I think the only two teams in the NRL who can go close to this is the Melbourne Storm, who have used the Lexus Centre in Melbourne, which is the pinnacle ATM of training and recovery facilities for the past few years, and the Bulldogs, who next season move their whole football operation from Belmore to Homebush Bay and will be moving into state of the art NSWIS facilities which will give them not only recovery and training facilities, but also access to the Aquatic Centre, Sydney Olympic Centre and other state of the art facilities to make sure they can get the most out of their players.

These two teams though have been around for a fair while... for the Titans to do this in their 3rd season as it seems it will be ATM, is just astonishing... and a true credit to Searle and his team on the great work they are doing not just for the Titans, but for the whole Gold Coast community.. :D

I also agree with Patske, it looks fabulous and really, it's a massive plus for any team, the fact it's the Titans is an added bonus...

This is a like a dream, a lot of investment is being made to make the Titans the best rugby league club, so let's support them as much as we possibly can in 2008.

Keep those crowds up there!

Raiders use the AIS, so while it caters for every other thing and some when it comes to sport, it could probably be classed as football amenities.

I'm not trying to bag the joint, its great that they'll have a brand new stadium, training grounds and top class facilities by their third year in the comp. More a dig at some fluff piece hyping a 5 story Fernwood to be the ultimate place to lift a dum-bell.

It's not how big it is that counts, it's what you do with it.

An old adage, but if it fits wear it.

Facilities will certainly help the cause, but it won't win games or premierships.
Look at Collingwood, argueable the best AFL facilities in the game, and they haven't won a premiership since 1990.

Certainly will make the journey to Titan Territory enticing and enjoyable for players.

New hi-tech home for Gold Coast Titans

http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5755980,00.jpg

THIS is the $25 million project that will make the Titans the most cutting-edge club in the NRL.

Having once operated out of the back room of a local pub, the Gold Coast has become one of the most progressive outfits in Australian sport as the club prepares to start construction on its Centre of Excellence.

Artist impressions obtained by The Sunday Mail show Titans pair Scott Prince and Preston Campbell will adorn the six-level facility, which is due for completion before the 2009 season.

Titans managing director Michael Searle said the base would be used as a carrot to recruit players and was a key plank in the club's admission to the National Rugby League.

"We'll provide them with an environment where there are no excuses in our quest for excellence," Searle said.

"It's going to be a start-of-the-art facility. We're leaving no stone unturned in our goal to win the premiership.

"We've always said we wanted to be cutting edge and innovative and this is a great tool to recruit and develop our players.

"The main focus is to provide a competitive advantage over the other NRL clubs. When you have a salary cap environment where you are restricted as to what you can pay, you need to provide facilities and opportunities that differentiate one club from the next.

"It will definitely be a point of difference. The Lexus Centre in Melbourne has similar facilities but that is shared by a number of clubs.

"This venue will be exclusively ours. From the club's point of view, it's a magnificent facility to have and we can't wait for it be operational."

To be built by club sponsor DTBS, the Titans' Centre of Excellence will feature the type of facilities synonymous with American football.

The multi-purpose structure will feature a 25m indoor pool, hot and cold hydrotherapy baths, steam rooms, dining and conference rooms for players and a sports science laboratory.

The second floor has an independent medical centre, with the third level to be rented out.

The top levels will house the Titans' football and marketing operations in a facility spawned from Searle's fact-finding visit to the US in 2004.

"This concept came from our initial visit to the Miami Dolphins," he said. "We realised then that we would one day need an asset like a centre of excellence to attract players.

"If you're offering the same dollars, the player is more likely to choose us than a Sydney club without similar facilities.

"Coaching and senior management will be all under the same roof. We're also looking at getting a full medical centre as well."

The Titans are awaiting the green light from the Gold Coast City Council. The development is expected to begin next month and will be 50m from the club's new Robina stadium.

As part of the construction, two training fields will also be set up.

"We're finalising the approval with council now and it should be approved at any stage. As soon as we get the green light, we'll start digging the hole," Searle said.

"It's certainly a long way from the days of the Gold Coast Chargers."

Why would you think this? They would have to tender for the project, like anyone else. Just giving them the job would allow the to charge what they pleased.

On a slightly different note, I wonder if the Titans received the full sponsorship $$$ (if any) before DTBS went under?

Funding has been secured to finance a $30million Centre of Excellence for the Gold Coast Titans National Rugby League team.

It will be built at Robina on the Gold Coast by Simcorp Developments and Constructions.

Commercial mortgage house Balmain NB Corporation announced this week it had tied up funding for the project with the Commonwealth Bank.

Construction is expected to wrap up in November.

Once completed the club will occupy the ground, mezzanine and top floor of the six-level building. The facility will include a professional gym, 25m lap pool and rehabilitation and physiotherapy facilities.

The remainder of the building will be leased as commercial office space.

The team at present trains at Runaway Bay and its junior and game development departments are at Tugun while the administration headquarters is in Southport.

The new facility will bring all aspects of the operations under one roof.

Titans receive sneak peak at Centre of Excellence

Titans livewire Preston Campbell looks out over the swimming pool area at the club's Centre of Excellence.

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright believes the club will be the envy of any sporting organisation in Australia when its state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence training facility is completed.

Jetstar Titans players and coaching staff today received their first sneak peak at the $30 million Centre of Excellence, which is scheduled to be completed in December.

The unique training facility will be equipped with a state-of-the-art gym, the latest recovery equipment including a 25 metre lap pool, two hydrotherapy pools, change rooms, medical facilities and a luxury player?s retreat.

Importantly, the Centre of Excellence will act as a central base for the Jetstar Titans, who have been split between a temporary training base at Runaway Bay, a main administration office at Southport and a junior development arm at Tugun since inception in 2007.

Jetstar Titans coach John Cartwright said he was looking forward to the opening and said it will provide his team with a much more professional look.

?It will be a lot more professional for us, it will be a lot easier to run organisational wise,? said Cartwright.

?We?ve got our training fields over the back, the stadium just there and now the training facilities next door. It?s just going to be nice to have everything under the one roof and in a central position.

?We will be the envy of any sporting club in Australia. It?s going to be a huge advantage for us.

?We?re trying to give the players the best possible chance. It?s a great professional approach and we can show that it?s a good tool for the players.?

Jetstar Titans livewire Preston Campbell said the Centre of Excellence looked set to live up to its name.

?It?s called the Centre of Excellence and after seeing it, it?s probably the right name for it,?? he said.

?You walk in and just think wow, this is huge.

?It?s definitely something I?m not used to but something I?m looking forward to using.??

Not long until we have a brand new home outside Skilled Park. It's an amazing project and it blows my mind. And having all our departments together for the first time will make the club all the stronger. I can't wait, I am literally crossing off days in the calendar for this to be opened.

I can just imagine all the Titans fans trooping across from the station past the building, looking at it filled with pride and passion. Also the poor opposition fans, but instead of good emotions, we add to their inferiority complex.

But it's all great for rugby league to have the best facility in Oz and for the Titans to always be #1 on the Coast. This will take the Titans to a new level in more areas then I could type here.

And every fortnight it is even bigger and bigger. I love it.
