Default Titans at the World Cup

World Cup watch: Fifita headlines Tonga, Three Titans considered for Kiwis
    https://www.titans.com.au/news/2022/...rld-cup-watch/

Welcome to the Gold Coast Titans' Rugby League World Cup watch, covering all the selections ahead of the tournament commencing in the United Kingdom in October.

SEE WHICH TITANS HAVE BEEN SELECTED

Gold Coast Titans star David Fifita has been named alongside teammate Moeaki Fotuaika in a powerful Mate Ma'a Tonga squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup in England.

Tonga coach Kristian Woolf has chosen 38 players in the extended squad - which includes the two Titans - and faces a difficult task to trim the number to 24 before the tournament, with Fifita one of the new faces yet to represent the Pacific nation.

Fotuaika represented his heritage earlier this year against New Zealand and is excited to have been considered for the campaign by Woolf.

Meanwhile; three Titans have been considered for the Kiwis with Michael Maguire naming his extended squad ahead of their first match against Lebanon.

Isaac Liu and incoming half Kieran Foran are both expected to make the final 24 to head abroad at season's end, whilst Erin Clark was also considered but was forced to be withdrawn due to continuing to recover from knee surgery last month.

If there were flights and no QT in HK, I would definitely fly back to watch the mens and womens PM13 games and also the QCUP Grand Final. I think it's on the same weekend.

All matches will be broadcast on the Nine Network and Fox Sports. The PM’s XIII matches will be broadcast on GEM – representing the first time the PM’s XIII matches have been broadcast on free-to-air television in Australia.

He was carrying a bit of a niggle end of the year, can't say that's definitely why he isn't playing but it wouldn't shock me if he was told to take the PM game off by the Titans

So would he be a chance for the Kumuls World Cup side? Or maybe he needs more time. I'd love to see him play for PNG.

There are a few warm-up games being played by different nations which are also drawing my interest.

Eight Titans to feature in women's PM's XIII clash
    https://www.titans.com.au/news/2022/...ms-xiii-clash/

Eight more Gold Coast Titans are in line to wear the green and gold with the announcement of the Prime Minister's XIII Women's squad today.

Bringing the total number of representatives to 11 for the two International clashes against Papua New Guinea, six of the club's NRLW stars will debut in the side with Karina Brown and Steph Hancock getting the opportunity to represent their nation once again.

Karina Brown, Lauren Brown, Zara Canfield, Laikha Clarke, Jess Elliston, Jetaya Faifua, Steph Hancock and Tiana Raftstrand-Smith will enter camp on Wednesday with Titans veteran and rugby league legend Hancock will lead the Australian Prime Minister's XIII side for their clash against PNG at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Hancock is the equal sixth most capped Jillaroo with 20 Tests to her name while she is also the national side's leading try-scorer with 13.

The 40-year-old enjoyed another strong personal season for the Titans in her return to rugby league this year with four tries in five games and will be joined by likes of Maroons teammates Karina Brown and Tiana Raftstrand-Smith.

Brown captained the corresponding PM's XIII side in 2019 and has retained the fullback spot for the match.

The match is the first featuring an Australian women's rugby league side since 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the international schedule.

It will also be a crucial game for World Cup selectors with players on the cusp of selection looking to stake late claims to be picked in the Jillaroos squad next month.

"This is a very strong squad," Australian PM's XIII coach Brad Donald said.

"We have a mix of very experienced players as well as some of our up-and-coming young players who I’m very pleased to see being given this opportunity."

Read something that the PM13 side is different to their National side and they want to include alot more 'local PNG' players.

Nationalism is very strong in PNG so the grassroots people have a feeling of entitlement towards the Kumuls. That is until they get flogged and then they want the overseas players. It’s a balancing act for their administration. It’s been like that since Independence in 1975.
