Default Pick your best Titans 17

Name your best starting 17 that should take the field every week for the Titans. Mine would be:

    1. Mead
Mead is a fan favourite and our best fullback. His defence wins us games (as shown in Rabbits game) and our attack is far more dangerous when he is our #1.

    2. Roberts
Roberts has lightning speed and can outpace most opponents. As shown in recent weeks his defence and kick chasing is also a great attribute.

    3. Tighe
Tighe may be older but he still has speed to burn and he always puts in %100 every week.

    4. Blair
Blair can be a damaging runner with the ball and his defence never lets us down. I think he fits in at centre rather than in the halves

    5. Don
Don is safe under the high ball and his height makes him lethal under a bomb. He also has a fair bit of pace as well.

    6. Kelly
Kelly adds the x-factor that we need in attack. He is dangerous with the ball especially if he finds some space.

    7. Mortimer
Morts steers the team around the field and continuously creates try scoring opportunities. Him and Alby would be great together in the halves.

    8. Douglas
Douglas is a workhorse. He is always top 5 in tackles and he is not afraid to run the ball hard.

    9. Falloon
Beau is a great defender and quick out of dummy half. If he cuts the multiple penalties out of his game, he is not a bad player.

    10. Myles
Myles does work hard but most times he runs the ball so unbelievable slow which puts us on the back foot.

    11. Bird
Birdy is an aggressive player who isn't afraid to get smashed by the defence. If he wasn't such a whinger and a ball hog, he would be our best forward.

    12. Taylor
Taylor is a damaging runner with the ball and averages 150+ most games. He draws defenders in but sometimes makes stupid offloads that cost us dearly.

    13. Carter
Carter is one of our best every week. He is not afraid to put his body on the line to make a tackle or to make metres. Like Falloon, if he removed the silly penalties from his game he would be even better

    14. White
White is our quiet achieving forward who never lets us down. Runs the ball hard and isn't scared to make a big tackle.

    15. Minichiello
I wasn't a big fan of Mini at the start of the year but in the last few weeks he has changed my mind. He has cut the scrappy ball handling out of his game.

    16. Bailey
Bails may be old but no one can disagree that he always puts in 110%. Makes plenty of tackles and charges hard into the defence. Does give away a few too many penalties at times.

    17. Nelson
Nelson is a hard working backrower that specialises in defence. Hits them hard and is a good young player who I hope is in our team for years to come.

We know that teke will have Mead at FB, so naturally he will put TP at hooker.

Nope … we need a 9 desperately and a big bopper but I would lose Bird and Myles, I feel they are the root of our problem on and off the field … I would much rather have youngish goers like Kingston and Takairangi who should be in the back row plus Carter. Otherwise we are looking ok.

i was looking forward to seeing this game for 2 reasons.

    1). Walker v Roberts, and
    2). Tom Kingston

I was told by a number of players that Kingston is the best hooker in the club even though he doesn't play it in the Q cup. A glimpse of him at dummy half and his distribution gave me some hope.

Yeah I was really considering putting Nelson, Ioane and Kingston in the team but they just missed out.

FIXED. Nelson in, Srama out. Carter can fill in at hooker if needed.

I enjoyed reading your post Titan4Life and your side is pretty close to what I would have. However would never go close to winning a comp with a spine like that, but we have been over that territory before. While White, Mini and Bailey have some strong points, overall it comes across to me as very weak bench compared to other sides and certainly no x-factor there (however Nelson is obviously on the way up).
For me Mead, Roberts, Don, Mortimer, Bird and Carter are either the most consistent or will soon develop into consistent performers but the rest are too hot and cold but is that just due to the coaching?
I have left Kelly out of my comments as I just want to see him string a few games together at this stage.
    Good discussion topic though.

    1. Mead. Currently our best available option. Needs to improve his passing and kicking game.

    2. Roberts. This guy has all the makings of a special player.

3.Takarangi. Like the aggression and size. Makes a few errors but is creative in attack.

    4. Nelson. Lacks experience at the top level but looks aggressive (my favourite/preferred attribute)

    5. Don. Really looked the goods in the early matches. Scored tries and defended well. Is also fast.

    6. Kelly. Should be the first player picked. Special player, X factor Y factor and most of the alphabet.

    7. Mortimer. Has the kicking game and a dose of the smarts in general play. Like what he has produced so far.

    8. Bailey. Nuff said. we are going to miss his leadership when he retires.

9.Srama. Best distributor from dummy half. Needs to improve his kicking game. Great hookers Luke, Smith, Ennis add variety with their kicks in play.

    10. Douglas. Keeps his spot just in front of a few others. Last few outings have been huge improvements on metres run.

11.Myles. Not worried about a few penalties, part of the package for an aggressive forward. Desperate to keep him in the second row as he can play more minutes and we are better team when he is on the field.

12.Taylor. Absolute beast. Huge metres and has aggression in spades.

13.Bird. Our best player. Love the aggression, however apart from milking, whining to the refs, and sledging everyone else,he would always be in my team.

14.Ioane. Early signs look promising. Has some speed as well. Very promising.

    15. Mini. Give him another year contract and put him in the front row. Good ball runner, big ,bulky, and gutsy.

    16. Carter. Very aggressive. A few less penalties would a bonus. Can play hooker for ten minute either side of half time to save an extra rake on the bench.

    17.Blair. Good utility value.

And then there were the rest.

White. First backup in case of injury.

Tighe. Just outside the team, very fast.

Falloon. Back up hooker option. Specialises in slowing down the opposition ruck, just needs to get penalised less for it.

Nelson, Kingston, Their time will come, both look likely prospects.

Zillman. TP needs to POQ and DCB. Is there still a position called left right out?

Gordon. My favourite player two years ago. If he is a marquee player then it time to pack up his tent.

Ashley Harrison. Whilst his absolute best years are behind him we are going to miss his defence and huge weekly tackle count. Rest your weary bones as you will be hard to replace.

    6. Kelly
    7. Mortimer

    11. Bird

Though I would go a bit more unconventional, would love to see if this team would work.!

    1. James Roberts - Makings of the next superstar
    2. Anthony Don - Not complaisant and has a sense of urgency
    3. Brad Tighe
    4. David Taylor - Add a bit more size to our edges
    5. David Mead
    6. Daniel Mortimer
    7. Albert Kelly
    8. Luke Bailey
    9. Beau Falloon - Play as an 80 minute hooker and Paul Carter could back up if injured
    10. Luke Douglas
    11. Paul Carter
    12. Nate Myles
    13. Greg Bird
    14. Caleb Binge - Go for a bigger sized bench, possibly swap for Kingston or Nelson
    15. Matthew White
    16. Mark Minichello - Always gives 110% even tho he knocks on about 50%
    17. Brad Takaraigni - Add a bit of opportunism

    - - - Updated - - -

Gone for a larger sized team which won't get stormed on the edges, and would have more man power through the middle.
